MGB Roadster Mk1 – Original/ Matching Numbers
The original MGB Roadster is one of the most recognisable British sports cars ever manufactured. It brought affordable fun to the open road when launched in 1962 and over the next 18 years over 500, 000 cars were sold.
Our very early roadster was manufactured on 2nd December 1963, was registered in Bournemouth on 9th January 1964 and has spent the remaining 54 years in the same area. It is the earliest roadster that we have had through Milestones and is remarkable with original disc wheels, seats/ door cards, 4 digit/ 2 number Bournemouth registration, BMC stamped service books, handbook etc.
On the road the car drives extremely well with excellent oil pressure and no untoward noises or smoke. The cylinder head has been upgraded for unleaded fuel and the overdrive unit engages & disengages quickly. The car was partially restored in 1994 with wings and sills receiving attention and today, 23 years later, there is no evidence of corrosion.
On arrival we were amazed by the originality of this lovely MGB. We simply have not seen an early, matching numbers, pull-handle example with original seats and door cards – they have all been replaced by modern, after market reproductions many years ago. Equally, the early steel wheels are nearly always replaced by wires…. you forget just how stunning the original concept was.
In summary, this is a rare opportunity to own an early, unmolested, MGB Roadster in remarkable condition. We expect the car to find an appreciative new home to cherish her very quickly…
