1957 Ford Thunderbird For Sale
The first generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a two seater convertible produced from 1955-1957. It was developed in response to the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, which showed the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette in turn was developed in response to the popularity of European sports cars among Americans. For the 1957 model year, the front bumper was reshaped, the grille and tailfins were larger, and larger taillights were fitted. The spare wheel moved back inside the trunk, which had been redesigned to allow it to be mounted vertically. The side "Thunderbird" script was moved from the fins to the front fenders. A new option was "Dial-o-Matic" 4-way power seat that would move rearward when the ignition was turned off to allow easier exit and entry. In addition to the standard 292 and optional 312 engines, higher performance versions of the 312 were offered. 1957 sales were 21, 380, including three extra months of production because the 1958 models were late. The 1957 Thunderbird was the last two seater Ford sold until the 1982 Ford EXP sport compact car.
1957 Ford Thunderbird. This Thunderbird has a 312 engine with a three speed manual transmission and overdrive. As far as we know the drivetrain is original to the vehicle. The car is mechanically sound. Comes with manual drum brakes and manual steering. Has a great color combination with a white exterior and red interior. All four hubcaps and both fender skirts are there with the vehicle. It is a complete car. The paint on the vehicle is driver quality. Original spare and jack is in the trunk. Does have a ding in the passenger side lower quarter panel. Previous owner had just spent nearly $5, 000 to get the vehicle back on the road again.
The interior of the vehicle is complete and in great condition. It comes with a hard top only. The soft top frame is not there. Both electric windows roll up and down without any problems. This vehicle also has a power seat. Dashboard is in perfect condition with no cracks. All the chrome to the vehicle is on the car and in good shape. The front bumper is not as good of shape as the rear. The windshield on the car does have some chips, other glass is all good. Has a clean California title and is registered until August 2021. Great car that would be a great bonus to any collection.
