THIS CAR
- Quite simply one of the most robust and capable historic endurance rally cars we’ve seen.
- The ever popular 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe ‘Fangio’ Coupe, inspired by Juan Manuel Fangio’s legendary winning performance at the 1940 Gran Premio Internacional del Norte.
- Extensively restored and rally prepared by Harbor Auto Restoration in Florida, USA between 2014/ 2015 in preparation for the 2016 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge.
- The car performed brilliantly, being awarded a Silver Medal upon completion.
- The Fangio Coupe was then imported to Germany in 2017 after being acquired by the car’s current owner.
- Further fettling, recommissioning and engineering work was then carried out by specialist Udo Fink, before being entered into the 2019 Benjafield Stubble Racing event – which this car won.
- Since then, the car has been fully recommissioned and serviced, and is now offered as a truly ‘turn key’ solution for any budding historic endurance rally enthusiast.
- The car is currently registered in Germany, but is available for viewings and test drives at our showroom in Bicester Heritage.
- The car is also accompanied by an extensive spares package, and can be supplied with a fresh spare engine subject to negotiation.
WHAT WE THINK
- We collected this car from Hamburg, Germany, and proceeded to drive it all the way back to our showroom in Bicester. That’s over 1000km in less than 24h – and it didn’t miss a beat.
- These cars really do represent incredible value in the secondary market, especially when you consider the level of work and investment that’s required to get to this stage…
- The build cost alone is close to £200k. Then the car has to be run in and re-serviced. It then has to have at least one or two proper ‘shakedowns’ in order to work out the bugs and identify areas of improvement. Each one of these ‘shakedown’ events costs in the tens of thousands of pounds, and then there is all the recommissioning work that’s required after the events have finished.
So to be able to jump into ownership after all that work has been done for a fraction of the cost, well, that’s a good deal in our book!
