The Appeal
Certain colours flatter Paul Bracq’s handsome W113 lines, and the rare burgundy metallic of this car is certainly one of them. The colour accents the bright chromework and works well with the car’s tobacco brown leather interior.
The vendor acquired the car around the time that it received a full bare metal respray, new floors and exterior rechrome. It has been little used since so remains in very good order. Beneath the lengthy bonnet, the factory 2.3L straight six has been replaced with the larger, longer-legged 2.8L engine, which is mated to an automatic gearbox. This is a car specified for road trips and touring.
The vendor tells us that he has regularly serviced it since purchase, generally using parts from a specialist, The SL Shop. Recent work includes another service and new brake callipers, discs and pads. This a pretty and tidy example of the perennially popular Pagoda.
The vendor says:
“The larger capacity 280sl engine and the automatic gearbox fit the car perfectly. A great balance of poise and power with the six cylinder engine. The car gains much admiration for its looks with the stunning metallic burgundy suiting the lines of this elegant tourer down to the ground.”

This car’s respray, rechorming and structural work may have been undertaken nine years ago, but you would struggle to tell from the photos. There are a few signs of age, likely helped by sparing use, dry storage and a strict dry weather driving regime.
The colour scheme works well, the burgundy metallic paintwork accenting the brightwork and complementing the tobacco brown leather interior, which we are told is original. The car retains its desirable Becker stereo but with useful Bluetooth connectivity.
