The Appeal

The Bertone-designed GT Junior is one of the most desirable shapes to emerge from the golden age of Italian motoring. Compact, beautifully proportioned and blessed with Alfa Romeo's legendary twin-cam engine, it's equally celebrated as one of Alfa's finest driver's cars. This 1971 example raises the stakes further, having been fitted with a 1,750cc twin-cam in place of the original 1,300cc unit; a well-known and highly regarded upgrade within the Alfa community.
The car has been the subject of an extensive, no-expense-spared restoration carried out in 2015, with parts sourced from Alfaholics and other respected specialists. Documented through invoices for every step, and accompanied by three CDs of photographs, the car's history file certainly supports that claim. The Dutch Blue paintwork, tan and black interior, and carefully restored chrome and trim all point to a car that has been rebuilt with genuine knowledge and care.
With its extensive documentation, reported rust-free condition and thorough mechanical rebuild under its belt, this GT Junior ticks plenty of boxes; the ideal opportunity for a new all-Italian love affair.

History and Paperwork

  • Registered in 1971
  • Documents include test certificates, registration letters and legal paperwork from the car's time in Australia; importing documentation and UK registration paperwork also present
  • Sold via Car & Classic in 2020
  • Now UK-registered with age-appropriate plate OEU566J, having previously been on a private plate
  • Extensive documentation kept in a box file, including invoices for every step of the restoration
  • Many parts and invoices sourced from Alfaholics (UK) and other well-regarded Alfa Romeo specialists

The Condition

  • Dutch Blue period-correct gloss paintwork carries a fine, handsome shine
  • Panel gaps are reported to be uniform and neat
  • Chrome and stainless trim polished to a high shine 
  • Very solid underside
  • Sills, doors and other cavities filled with wax to prevent future corrosion
  • New 15-inch Alfaholics wheels fitted with new tyres
  • Door handles, trim, badges and grille have all been restored
  • Interior presented in a tan and black colour scheme
  • Seats reported to show no wear; rear seats appear never to have been sat in
  • Carpets appear to be in very good order
  • Dash is clean, with the dials as bright and clear
  • Headlining reported to be clean and free of marks or staining
  • Door cards in good order
  • Door strikers on doors and B-pillars freshly re-plated
  • Entire cabin lined with Dynamat sound deadening (floors, tunnel, firewall and inner doors) plus Dynaliner under carpets and behind headlining
  • All wiring is new, adapted to include a modern 12v socket
  • Period-look Retromobile head unit fitted with modern internals providing phone connectivity
  • All rubbers are new
  • More modern, powerful windscreen washers fitted
  • The vendor describes the engine bay as being in very good condition, with inner arches and chassis rails all in good order
  • New wiring harness fitted from front to back
