The Appeal
The Reliant Scimitar GTC was conceived to fill the void left by the Triumph Stag, a four-seat, open-top British grand tourer with genuine everyday usability. With only around 443 examples ever produced, the GTC is among the rarest British convertibles of its era, and its rot-resistant fibreglass body over a galvanised steel chassis means survivors tend to be in notably better structural health than their steel-bodied contemporaries.
This beige example with its black soft-top has been in the care of one dedicated enthusiast since 2011, stored in a dehumidified workshop on carpeted flooring, and kept under dust sheets. The vendor informs us that the car has been kept to a high standard both mechanically and cosmetically by its late owner. It shows 5,090 indicated miles and when last MOT tested in March 2021, it passed first time with no advisories. Eligible for MOT exemption, this is a rare chance to acquire one of the scarcest open-top grand tourers to come out of Britain in the 1980s.
