Let me introduce you to this true time-warp classic, a 1988 Volvo 340 GL auto, affectionately known as ‘Freda’, with just 28, 501 warranted miles from new.
As of late 2022 there were only NINE licensed examples of the 340 GL auto model in the UK.
She was manufactured in the summer of 1988 at the VDL Nedcar factory in the Netherlands and finished in paint code 306 ‘Smoke silver’ metallic, before being sold on the 1st August 1988 to its original owner by Volvo main dealer ‘Fewster Woodkirk’ located on Humberside.
The car was then used very sparingly for the next 9 years as backed up by several invoices and MOT certificates. These detail services, warranty work and general maintenance carried out by the fastidious owner.
In 1997, the car was put into dry storage and remained there for 24 years and was only put back into service in 2021!
It then went on to pass its first MOT in 25 years with no advisories.
In total, she has done an average of only 815 miles per year over just shy of 35 years!
The car has been has some preventative under sealing with only a handful of cosmetic rust bubbling on the nearside ‘c’ pillar and the front valance. The tyres have great tread all round with no cracking or perishing, with the front two being Michelin.
The bodywork is completely solid and original, testament to being inside for the vast majority of its lifetime.
I purchased this delightful survivor earlier this year from a classic car auction with the intention of keeping her as an investment piece, but in hindsight I feel she would prefer to be on the road driven by an enthusiast who appreciates her for what she is.
