For sale is my 1965 Chevrolet Corvair 500
3 Speed Manual, 110bhp 2. 7 flat 6 air cooled with twin carbs.
500 trim level, so has the simpler dash clocks and bench seats among other tweaks over a Monza.
The car has its original paint with a great level of patina - I?ve used Ankor Wax to preserve it and give it a slight shine, it?s not permanent and there are many options on what to do with it. There are a couple of spots of surface rust which I?ve also coated in Ankor wax to protect it. The car is undersealed but also rarely gets wet, and the sills have been injected with Dinitrol.
Odometer showing approx 17000 miles, but I only have history from ~15000. The mileage will increase as I'm still using the car for occasional commutes and car shows.
The car had significant recommissioning over the past few years, including a full retrim to factory spec of seats, door cards and carpets. Also new bumpers, lamp lenses, fuel tank, wiper unit, exhaust system and more. The heating and ventilation system was also refurbished and replacement hoses fitted, electronic ignition and uprated coil fitted. There is also a back-up electronic fuel pump installed but I?ve never connected it up.
Oil, filters, spark plugs and fan belt have all been replaced over the past 18 months. Both carbs were recently rebuilt with new filters & gaskets and then tuned by an historic race prep garage so is running well and ready to be used for the rest of summer.
The steering wheel, dash and gear stick are all original along with the headlining, and the windows all work as the should giving the true pillarless look. The suspension is lowered and I think gives the perfect ride height. There is a modern but tasteful head unit fitted along with removable speakers on the parcel shelf.
I?ve various spares which would also come with the car, including the original bumpers, various gaskets, seals, lamp lenses, bit of trim.
I?ve had many great trips in it to shows and just interesting commutes, but now?s the time to free up funds and finish the house. It was also recently used as a wedding car which hopefully shows the confidence in how well it runs and drives.
Asking price is £12, 500, and the car is located near Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK.
Thanks for looking, please message me with any questions. Corvairs are an underrated and rare car to own, so be prepared for everyone to ask you what it is as most people don't know!
Being '65 this is an early late model (LM) Corvair so has independent suspension on the rear. It is a great shape and draws a lot of attention on the road.
The patina paint with a mint interior really works and it's a very practical and usable car. There are lap belts on the front bench and nothing on the rear but it is possible to fit 3-points in the front and laps in the rear if desired - I never had the need.
This was a direct competitor to the Mustang (and ultimately lost) but the rarity on British roads especially and it being a rear engine flat 6 air cooled classic makes it so much better. It does also fit in a single garage, as shown in the photo!
