Selling my low-mileage 1952 E494A Anglia, bought from a friend in April '21 and have used it locally for shopping trips, shows etc but I've got my eye on something else and I need the space so this will need to go sadly.

A real timewarp car, original body/ paint/ interior/ distinctive registration (non-transferrable fortunately), there aren't too many like this. It was dry stored in the early 60s when the then-owner gave up trying to pass his driving test (there are letters on file relating to this) and was only re-discovered a few years back. A previous owner stripped, checked and rebuilt the engine as necessary, and as a result the engine is very quiet indeed, fortunately he chose to preserve the original body and paint rather than stripping it all away and re-painting it.

The history file with it makes for an interesting read. The V5C is here in my name (the car was recently put on SORN as I'm using something else at the moment), there are also some old servicing receipts, the old buff logbook, tax discs, purchase receipt in 1960, insurance papers, driving test failure and general correspondence, a 1962 MOT certificate, handbook and other bits and bobs.

Indicated mileage of 40, 488 which is correct I'm sure, according to the file it had a service in August 1960 and the mileage then was 39, 906!!

Very nice interior, original floor covering, door trims, seats etc, all the bakelite inc dashboard is undamaged (no cracks or splits), original headlining.

The paint is faded and original, some surface blemishes/ patina as you'd expect after 70+ years but looks great and gets a lot of positive comments whenever we've shown it. When I was out photographing it for the advert a gent pulled up alongside and began to wax lyrical about an identical car he owned in the distant past. Door pillars, gutters, sills all rot free, doors both shut perfectly with no dropping etc, overall the body is very sound for the car's age – no welding has been done that I can see. Rexine panel in roof is in good condition. Photos show it all well and form part of the description. Good underneath, chassis and wood floor panels sound etc.

Original 6v electrics, has its starting handle, doesn't overheat, good starter. Tyres were replaced not long ago, good battery and exhaust, ready to go.

Faults? Crack in bottom corner of screen, gearbox whines a bit in first but no worse than other old upright Fords I've owned and doesn't jump out of gear as some do. Occasionally the semaphone indicators stick mid-way but a drop of oil will improve that, as would more regular use I think.

Overall this is a proper old survivor car that's ready to use and show straightaway. It's a great example of what motoring in the early 1950s must have been like. This is a very reluctant sale as I much prefer well preserved un-messed with cars to those that have been “restored” inside and out. Ideal for someone who wants a very original car, an “oily ragger”, that can be used straight away.

*** Cash on collection or bank transfer only please due to the hefty fees with C&C*** File of history with the car, old documents, letters, old and new logbooks, old tax discs etc.
