MG F 1999 MOT JULY 2024
I`ve restored classic cars as a hobby for over 25 years , but due to age (80s) and the fact I am having treatment for cancer , and having to have regular injections , which arn`t pleasant . I decided it was time to buy one more car to restore and possible keep . I found this MG F for sale as a non runner , the starter just clicked . The owner said that since he was 18st and 6ft 4”and the hood wouldn’t fold down, he should never have bought it and he soon lost interest . Due to the condition of the bodywork and the fact the engine had only done 63000 according to old MOTs, I bought it . A new starter supplied with the car, was fitted but still wouldn’t turn the engine over , I found the ECU was faulty and this I replaced along with the relay box . The car started on the button , but the alarm kept cutting in . I replaced the door locks which is a common fault , and this improved things , but the key fob had to be held close to the alarm box to disable the alarm system . I sent the alarm box and two key fobs to a specialist who found a fault with the receiver , so he reconditioned the box and matched both keys to it. The car was at last as it should be , both keys working along with the central locking . The engine sounds beautiful on tick over and pulls a treat , To get the car right, I fitted a recommended mod. to the hood to get it to close correctly ( two elastic straps) . I replaced the alternator and the wiper motor along with the motor drive mechanism . There are new brake discs and pads on the rear , along with the brake master cyl. all of these were replaced shortly before I bought the car. The body is very good with no rust , its exceptional for its age . The hood and rear window are both excellent . Brakes and tyres are very good, seats are very good . There are stainless steel cooling pipes, from engine to radiator . Giving the car a final check over , I fitted a new set of spark plugs new wiper blades new air filter and a new N/ S track rod end old one had very slight play also an oil change and new oil filter and finally a new battery as I wasn`t sure how old the original one was. . Overall the car is very good , it also runs cool . The mileage of just under 67000 I believe is correct , looking at past MOTs . I was looking forward to spending the summer making use of it , but earlier this year, my wife and I were driving north on the M6 and our car was wiped off the road , by a 25 ton lorry and written off . Fortunately the driver stopped as he heard a bang and saw us in his mirror fighting to gain control of the car . His excuse was he looked in his mirror couldn’t see us and assumed we had gone onto the exit road to leave the M6. As a result, it has left me with whiplash injuries , which makes it almost impossible to get in and out of the MG so I have to realise its not going to be a car I can use for a while if at all and it pointless letting it sit in the garage . My wife also the same age , finds it a bit of a job to get out as it`s so low . Its all very sad but I have to accept what`s happened . Just to add , there are two sets of keys and two working key fobs . The car is ready to use and enjoy. The only part , that doesn’t seem to be working , is the oil temperature gauge . However club members say its not worth bothering with as its useless.
So there is nothing to do, other than enjoy it .

So since September 2022 the following has been done
New starter motor
ECU and Relay box replaced .
Alarm unit and key fobs restored
Both door locks replaced
Rear brake discs plus pads and brake master cyl. replaced
Alternator replaced
Wiper motor and mechanism replaced and new wiper blades
Nearside track rod end fitted
New battery
New spark plugs
Ive also fitted the modified hood straps , so the hood folds down correctly
Oil and air filters changed along with new engine oil.
Front N/ S wing and rear panel re-sprayed , due to lacquer peeling.
Just fitted new plugs and air filter
New number plates old were tatty
. This is excellent for the year I bought it to restore and enjoy, but sadly health reasons force me to sell it
