Description
This car was first registered on 5th June 1973 and is an original factory convertible. The V8 conversion was meticulously performed in 1995 by a private individual who worked closely with V8 specialist Dave Vale from Farnborough, Kent. The conversion was documented clearly in MG enthusiast magazine in August 1995 (included with the car). The attention to detail is immense, the V8 engine was reconditioned and rebuilt with uprated pistons, the SU carburetors were machined down and new engine mounts fitted to perfectly fit the 3. 5L rover V8 under the aluminium MGB bonnet. The fuel tank was moved by a few inches in order to fit the dual exhaust tailpipes making the car sound amazing. Additional torsion bars and box sections were added to the chassis to deal with the increase in power. Disc brakes were added to improve the stopping power and there is telescopic shock absorbers all round.
This car has been well cared for in dry storage since the conversion and has extremely low mileage (14, 200 miles) with rover V8s easily going for over 100, 000 miles. It has had regular oil and oil filter changes. It was recently recommissioned at Yorkshire Restorations earlier this year where the steering column was replaced, new wheels and tyres, exhaust mounts, wing mirrors and batteries were fitted and the carburetors were tuned. Within the last 3 years, the brake master cylinder, ignition system and clutch have been replaced. New engine mounts have also been fitted. The engine bay is in excellent condition. The team at Yorkshire Restorations assured me that the car is mechanically sound and it drives beautifully. It fires up first time and maintains oil pressure well (>20 at idle). No expense has been spared in maintaining this car and I have all the relevant receipts and MOT certificates which confirm the mileage.
The black leather interior is stunning with a brand new mountney wood steering wheel and MG wooden gearknob. There is a working radio with an AUX lead and dual speakers. The paintwork is in great condition and has been cared for with regular detailing. There is no rust or bubbling. The chromework is in excellent condition. Underneath the car there is no rust or corrosion and it has been undersealed.
The vinyl hood fits perfectly, but there is a small rip in one of the panels which should be easily fixed. It comes with a full car cover. The inside of this car is like the tardis. I'm 6'7 and fit well, my wife also drives this car and she is 5'5.
Reluctant sale to fund house move and renovations. Not in a rush to sell as I love driving this car and would like it to go to a good home. Viewing advised in Leeds. Please serious buyers only with funds available and approval from the other half.
