Here for sale is an immaculately presented, matching numbers, 1980 T140D that I bought a year ago as an unfinished project. The previous owner had spent a fortune on a complete engine rebuild - right down to the sludge trap, new bearings throughout, re bore +20, gear box stripped and all bearings replaced, frame and swinging arm stripped and powder coated, new Lucas wiring harness including a new battery, Boyer electronic ignition, Wassel regulator/ rectifier and coils, front forks have been stripped and new seals installed, new brake master cylinders, pads and hosing and new indicators, but he then ran out of money and energy so put all of the cycle parts and trims back on in their original state and sold it.
Since buying the bike the following work has been completed;
Tank and side panels resprayed with base coat and lacquer, wheels stripped, polished and resprayed, carburettors stripped, jets blasted through and new gasket sets fitted, engine casings polished.
New parts fitted by myself include:
Clutch plates and springs, down pipes and silencers, exhaust roses, all exhaust brackets, both tyres, 2 drilled brake discs, Girling shock absorbers, seat cover, handle bars, throttle, choke lever, speedometer, all cables, 2 mirrors, headlamp shell, kick start, gear lever, all rubbers, side panels, side panel badges, airboxes, air filters, chain and sprockets, chain guard, tank badges and a new tacho drive. The original 2:1 down pipes and cluster are included in the sale, see photos, no rust but they've blued with age, nice patina.
The bike now looks fantastic, it starts easily, the engine has that gorgeous ring of new bearings etc. as can be heard in the video link, it runs and rides perfectly and has now done 275 trouble free miles since it's rebuild. As the bike is 43 years old it's tax and MOT exempt and the V5 is in my name. To see a walk around video of the bike starting and running please email me. Thanks for looking, sensible offers consideredTo me the T140D is the ultimate oil in frame Bonneville and this one is a real beauty. It looks, starts, rides, brakes and sounds fantastic so it's an all round great bike to own and ride. I've also got a T140 Jubilee which I bought with only 6 miles on the clock from new and this T140D having been completely rebuilt is just as tight and good to ride. The gearbox selects quietly and smoothly with a gentle touch and easily selects neutral once stopped and the clutch is perfect with the new plates and springs fitted. The brakes are excellent due to all new parts including new drilled discs being fitted and the front and rear suspension give an excellent ride quality. All round this is a lovely bike to ride, responsive, agile, excellent handling and stopping capacity.
