Description
Datsun 280 Z 1975 LHD Manual Coupe
Genuine ?Desert? Find, just been imported from Texas.
Ideal project for a keen Datsun enthusiast. If it were me I?d get it running, clear coat the weathered body as use as is. That said all the steel is very good so if you want to go full bare metal resto route then ideal for that too.
These are the same S30 coupe body as the earlier 240 and 260 models. The 280 is structurally a bit stronger in some areas of the body so it has been argued are a better basis for a proper fast road car.
This car is largely complete. Only things missing are ignition switch and ecu. The engine appears to be free to turn and complete. You are welcome to turn it over, do a borescope etc. But because of the missing parts I haven?t tried to run it.
Engine is L28, with manual box. It has oil, clutch has pressure, selects gears, brakes feel ok, handbrake works, diff exhaust etc etc all look complete and ok. All ancillaries present and correct. Also appears to have factory A/ C.
Glass all good, interior all there, seats usable if recovered, although dash appears to have melted in the baking Texan heat!
Structurally she?s really quite good, panels have some minor dents but no filler.
Inner wings good
Bulkhead good
Battery tray not bad
Front frame rails good
Arches and wings good
Doors and tailgate no rot
Inner sills look very nice
Rear slam panel excellent
Cubby boxes good
Wheel well and boot floor not rotten
Sat on some funky 14' Factory alloy wheels.
I?ve removed the ?US spec Impact Bumpers? today. If for any reason you want to refit them they can come with the car. But lets be honest they look terrible and must way 50 kgs so it?ll be a lot faster without!
