A 3 litre V6 up front, manual gearbox and rear wheel drive. £17k spent over the last 6 years. In need of cosmetic improvement or just use and enjoy. I?ve owned this Scimitar SE5A for 6 years and have had lots of work done (see below). I?ve run out of enthusiasm for the car, and it now needs somebody else to either carry on the improvements, enjoy the car as it is or maybe turn it into a track car if that?s your thing. MOT until 6/ 6/ 24 - no advisories on the last two. Once warmed up it drives very nicely and makes a great noise.
Work done:
2017: Stainless steel exhaust and manifolds, AVO shocks and springs (height and ride adjustable) and poly-bushes, water pump and hoses, second hand sump, new genuine Minilite alloys and Avon tyres.
2018: High torque starter motor, ignition coil, brake pads and callipers, new fuel sender in tank.
2019 (a very expensive year!): new old stock 3 litre ?Essex? engine (a later one by Ford of South Africa ? uprated head so a bit more poke ? Ford put these into Sierras and transits in the SA market), radiator re-core, thermostat, alloy timing gear (the standard plastic ones have a habit of disintegrating apparently).
2020: Rear axle and diff re-furbished.
2021: Clutch slave cylinder, electronic ignition
2023: New halogen headlamps.
The invoices in my 6 years of ownership come to just under £17k (it has got out of hand a bit!)
If I were going to keep the car, I would install an electronic fuel pump (the standard mechanical one just isn?t up to the job especially on start-up); a new solenoid switch for the overdrive is needed; the carb is quite old ? I have a new Weber one that can be included in the sale if the price is right.
Cosmetically the paintwork is poor (it?s a ?20 footer?) and the car would benefit from a full respray (hence the price); inside it would need new carpet front and rear (boot is fine), door cards, and headliner. Or you could not worry about any of that and just drive the thing.
The price reflects the cosmetic condition of the car, but I think it?s realistic when you consider the money that has been spent ? the parts I?ve bought are worth more than the car but I wouldn?t want the car broken up; they are quite rare now ? 6635 SE5a?s were built and there are only 2467 on the club register.
