Description

1980 PORSCHE 924 TURBO SERIES 1 932
Low Mileage/ Massive History File
Wonderfully Original
2 Owners from New

XFS 54W
First registered 02. 09. 1980 by Camerons Porsche in Perth to a local gentleman
with his ownership spanning the first sixteen years to 09. 11. 96 when he sold it
to the second owner in Aberdeenshire and he has owned it since. It has
covered a rather low 106447 miles with only eight thousand miles in the last
24 years. Its been very well serviced and stored and as such is very well
preserved. The originality is rather impressive overall with a general
feeling of an unspoiled example, of note the condition of the cabin materials
and trunk area tell a story all of their own to those with a sharp eye for
classic car detail. The many images will hopefully do the job and speak words of their own.

Turbo Series 1 - A Pure Bred Sports Car
A model that arose out of the need to bridge the gap between the basic 924s
and the more powerful 911s. Having already found the benefits of turbochargers
on several race cars and crucially with the 1975 911 Turbo, Porsche chose to use
this technology for the 924, eventually introducing the 924 Turbo as a 1978 model.
The model remains as rare and elusive today as it was then and trying to find a
really good one is a hard ask. Over the last 20 years I have owned scores
of Porsche models though only two 924 Turbos. This is a real hardcore engine
engineered to an extremely high standard, offering a heady 170 bhp for the era
and the character of the car is wonderful, the dogleg gearbox and turbo
rush make each drive memorable.

The Drive
The engine runs well with excellent oil pressure. Gear change is tight &
supple and not wishy washy as some dogleg changes are that can be awkward
to master. On the road manners are impeccable with sure grip from the
tyres and brakes, the whole experience is very tight and solid, a clear
indicator of ongoing care. Original 15 " rims providing a comfortable
experience on a level that modern sports cars can never replicate. The
whole impression is of a car that still feels fresh and usable moving as
one whole piece with excellent suspension.
The years have not blunted the performance and on a back road its light and
punchy with sharp handling, point to point its very satisfying managing the
ebb and flow of power whilst rowing the gears.

Condition
Externally the coachwork is tidy with no problem areas and its tidy underside
too. There is the odd mark here and there though every panel looks original
and this is very much an original survivor that has not been tampered with
and has stood the test of time.
Aboard the cabin time has literally been standing still with little wear
indicators to seats doors cards or any leathers worth comment, aside the
obvious wear marks as can be seen in the images. Original carpets and mats in
wonderfully preserved order which is the general theme throughout, the headlining
and all associated upper trims are superb, as is the trunk area.
The alloys are sound and shod with good rubber. Aside slow movement to the
electric windows everything appears to work including the old school Panasonic
auto play, which is remarkable for what is a 43-year-old sports car.
The dash is uncracked, the steering wheel and gear shift leathers are
original and not changed, the carpet centre console surrounds look as
new, take some time to study the cabin images.

Service
Very well maintained with a large box file of service receipts dating back
to the late 80s, an impressive record to bolster the service booklet. There
are no obvious outstanding matters and it drives cleanly.
Not used much in the last few years though received a major service and health
check from OPC Perth on 04. 03. 21 at a cost of £647.
This Porsche is of course MOT & tax exempt.

Summary
An example with such genuine condition is surely to be coveted and cherished.
An almost unrivalled 924 turbo in the current market in this price range, ready
to be appreciated stored and maintained in the manner it has clearly been
accustomed. This scarcely available model is nothing other than a pleasure
to be handling and have grown very fond of gazing and marvelling at the utter
originality of it, the classic clean lines offer a simplicity that is perhaps
not yet fully appreciated truth be told, its a quirky car, from the doglex box,
to the all or nothing hammer like nature of the turbo, to the single wing mirror,
to the pop-up lights and slatted nose cone, its an array of visual appeal.
The 924 model is 48 years old now, the Turbo is a surefire Blue chip investment
