I’m only selling this car to fund something else. It is a wonderful baby saloon that drives amazingly well. it will top eighty with ease and modern cars seem always to be in your way. It is impossible to drive the Appia slowly, although it is a very civilised little town car.
The light blue paint is the original colour, but I think the car was painted probably ten years ago. It is thoroughly respectable and bright with no obvious rust but by no means show standard. The stainless steel over riders have parking dents and the sill trims are missing. Very solid underneath and the amazing doors with no central pillar open and shut beautifully.
The grey cloth interior is very respectable just needs a detail clean. Front seat cushion recovered. The rubber matting is in good condition and there is a set of period over mats.
Expensive new period correct Michelins
Replaced the exhaust system and gone through the brakes;
rebuilt the master cylinder, wheel cylinders etc.,
replaced the brake reservoir,
replaced the fuel pump and the steering linkages,
repaired the washers and wipers and generally gone through the electrical system.
New clutch
New timing chain
water pump rebuilt.
driver’s side window mechanism rebuilt.
New head lights
Brakes refurbished.
The gearbox is noisy.
The Appia Consortium can supply most parts inexpensively. It originally came to me via Andy Heywood who imported the Appia from somewhere dry in Italy, so the car is not rusty and even has a very presentable coat of paint.
The previous history as usual with Italian imports is somewhat hazy but from what I can gather from the Carta Di CIRCOLAZIONE PER AUTOETTURA the car started life in Rome and was in use until the late seventies and then put on the road again in 2003 as a classic car; there is an ACI (Auto club D Italia) certificate in the history dated November 2016.
