Description
I bought this TF160 from MGF and TF specialist Trophy Cars at the end of June last year, with 56, 935 miles on the clock. Being a Trophy Cars sale it came with new head gasket, water pump and cam belt. In addition to this I paid extra for Waxoyl treatment and stainless steel coolant pipes, it also came with four, brand new Toyo Proxy tyres and with any other problems sorted. During my time the mileage has increased by less than 1200 miles. In other words this is a thoroughly sorted car with the major weaknesses of these models dealt with.
If you’re not familiar with the 160 version, this is the quickest one. Contemporary road tests clocking 0-60 mph in sub 7 seconds going on to a top speed in excess of 130mph.
I bought this car to keep long term but unfortunately health problems mean I must part with it.
I appreciate that the asking price is a bit higher than some but it could easily cost well in excess of £2, 000 to deal with the usual problems with one of these cars.
The car is very striking in appearance, the interior is red with the seats faced in alacantra, with black leather bolsters.
A copy of Trophy Cars description follows:
“Today we welcome this 2003 TF160.
This is no ordinary 160! A very unique colour combination with the iconic Pearl British Racing Green exterior paintwork and FULL red Dash, Doorcards & Red/ Black alcantara seats!
A real headturner which is sure to stand out at any show. With it being the 160 it has 16" Il spoke alloy wheels, AP4 pot calipers, Front fog lights and the highly popular 1. 8vvc engine.
The car is great condition throughout and an incredibly rare combination (This is the only example we have ever seen. In addition to the feature mentioned so far the car has also got a Windstop, 4 new toyo tyres, Red tonneau cover and colour coded green soft top!
The hood is also in Al condition with no tears or blemishes.
The service record has been kept up to date with alot of main dealer stamps.
It will also come fresh with Headgasket, Cambelt&pump, Full service and 12 months mot.”
It’s the sort of car that attracts attention at shows etc, which adds to the fun of ownership. I am an MG Owners Club member. I sold my 1972 MGB Gt because I was no longer able to service and repair it myself and bought this “modern” MG because it was cheaper to maintain at a garage than the old car. I could then continue to enjoy my MG Owners Club membership.
It is a true fun car, amazing engine that will chug along happily at 30 mph in 5th gear or, as the revs rise accelerate at a ferocious rate, accompanied by a great engine note.
Being mid engined the handling and road holding are amazing.
It is surprisingly practical, the hood grip and down easily and quickly. With the Windstop in place, windows raised and heater on it is very snug inside even on the coldest of days. Hence I hardly ever put the hood up.
The car has always been kept in my centrally heated garage and never intentionally been driven in the rain (got caught out at a show when it rained at the end.
I should point out that it is fitted with a sports exhaust, which is very loud. It adds to the fun but maybe too much for some!
