Description

3 previous owners

-1st owner 2 yrs
-2nd owner (same family) 48 yrs
-3rd owner 3 months
Current owner 1-2 months

Reason for sale: Driving position is too low and the seat set up is aggravating my long term back condition and therefore I have not driven the car on the road. I have started it up once a week, driven it out of the garage and run it up to temperature and engaged gears on the driveway.

and Ford under seal which has clearly preserved the car
-Engine sound and has been converted to unleaded
-Gear box nice and tight
-It’s a very honest straight survivor car
that’s far too good to be modified
-With it being a UK car I removed the seats and carpets,
they had never been out since it left Ford
-Under carpets were clippings of headlining,
several pop rivets off chrome window trim or top of doors
and a brand new pedal box bolt
-Floors were amazing see pictures

Owner 4 (current) write up:

Owner 3 was originally searching for a mk2 escort to modify as a project. At that time, a contact had presented the mk1 and given it's provenance and solid structure for a UK car he purchased it to undertake a sensitive restoration and pass on and continue his search for his mk2.

After long term storage the car had suffered some fatigue, but the actual structure of the car was very solid for a Ford of that era and the main suspect areas such as the strut tops, spare wheel well, heater bowl etc.. were exceptional for a car of that age, 3rd owner reported that the only repair was to an isolated small passenger floor area which he repaired.

Over a 2-3 month period the 3rd owner recommissioned the car, engine and gearbox out, prepared and resprayed the two sides of the car, engine bay and bonnet . The glass and seals which are all original remained in situ to preserve the originality and the boot lid , roof and back panel are still in original paint. Note the body panels which were resprayed were simply prepped and sprayed to modern standards and all minor body imperfections remain .

This is a survivor car and as such wears some imperfections such as scratches on the existing paintwork (roof, boot) and very minor imperfections on the newly painted panels. The rear panel is also in the original paint and has some minor patches of paint missing and had obviously been treated with a rust protector product (no holes) . Finally on this note, the complete paintwork has recently been professionally decontaminated and ceramic coated at a cost of £700 (receipt available).

The original wheels were powder coated and the original hub caps were polished, new tyres were fitted to ensure the cars roadworthiness (receipt available).

As my intention was to keep the car for the long term, I have wire brushed and jet washed the majority of the under carriage and under the wheel arches and applied Lanoguard rust protection over the existing thick underseal that was applied from new and various component's. This was the straw that broke the camels back and I am currently laid up (hence the sale/ advert).

This is an honest car, but note the variants that I know of below which will need to be considered by any potential purchasers:

- Obviously new and existing paint is off match but is very presentable
- The bonnet was removed to undertake the engine work and was resprayed and could do with realignment as it sits higher on the panel between bonnet & windscreen.
-The rear silencer needs replacing, I have managed to source a NOS item from Germany which will come with the car . It's for a 1300GT but will fit with a modification to the hanger bracket as it is an earlier version and the hanger brackets were redesigned at some point.
-The passenger door lock/ barrel is from a Ford Escort Mk2 , I have managed to source (not fitted) a used lock for a mk1 and that will be available with the sale.
-Chrome bumpers pitted but presentableHighlights

-UK car with minimal structural work
-Low owners
-Original invoice and folder pack
-Last tax disc displayed on window and evidence that the car was last on the road in 1985
- Original colour (Velvet Purple) from new and rare colour option for a 1300L model
- Rare matching number car (original stamps) confirmed on log book
-Mileage under 30K (no paperwork but condition and available history would suggest correct)
-Registered Historic (no requirement for MOT or Tax)
-No cracks in dash top
-Interior all original and in excellent condition (commensurate with mileage)
-The engine has been converted to take unleaded petrol
- The heater is operational
-Original dealer sticker in rear window with key fob present with keys
-Log book present and registered in my name at my home address
