Description
This particular VA, chassis number '0672', was purchased by the previous owners father in June 1970 from Harlaxton Motors near Grantham, Lincolnshire and has always been kept garaged. Some work was carried out and the car put back on the road, then later in the 1970s some bodywork restoration was undertaken. However, with funds limited the MG was taken off the road, its owner's aim being to fully restore it progressively, as and when money became available. In 1983/ 4, the body was extensively refurbished and the engine totally rebuilt, together with (it is believed) the clutch, carburettors, starter motor and dynamo. The car was driven back by the vendor from the garage where the work was done - a distance of approximately 10 miles - before it went back into his father's garage.
With failing health, completion of the rebuild was slow, and he passed away in 1996 half way through restoring the braking system. The previous owner inherited the car and always intended to complete the restoration but could not find enough time.
I purchased the car in 2013.
Much work was carried out to get the car running reliably. The brakes have been overhauled with re-sleeved wheel and master cylinders, new flexible hoses and front linings. New exhaust and rechromed rear bumper. The engine has been stripped and rebuilt and now runs very well. Steering is good with little play. Fuel system was flushed and carbs cleaned and pump overhauled. Cooling system has had new hoses and rebuilt water pump. The electrics have been improved with wiring tidied and flashing indicators fitted in new rear lights and extra bulb in side lights. New battery just fitted. The body work is in good condition, some wood has been replaced. The interior is original, well worn but still usable. The hood and side screens are in very good condition.
This is a very usable car as it is. It completed the New Forest Run in 2014 with no issues. It has been in regular occasional use since then.
This car is very original with all those hard to find small pieces still in place. It continues to be garaged.
Finished in British Racing Green with matching leather interior, this rare 4 seater convertible is now seeking a new owner. Accompanying documentation consists of sundry restoration invoices, old-style logbook and Swansea V5.
The car has recently been MOTed (exp June 2025). Purchased because I wanted more room for passengers than the two seats of the TA. It is a "sporty" car of its day with twin carbs, overhead valves, and open top.
I have had the pleasure of bringing it back to life, and using it for ten years. It now needs a new and younger owner.
