Description
This honest little G15 was purchased by myself in 2014 and lightly recommissioned (after dry storage) before being taken along to local car events. I haven't used the car much in recent years, but it's been dry stored and recently the fuel tank, lines and carbs were cleaned.
- In my ownership the original Cosmic alloys were refurbished and fitted with Dunlop tyres. They're still in a good condition with minor crazing under some lacquer (5th spare included); a set of G15 steel wheels will be provided in addition. Centre caps are not on the Cosmic wheels, as I never got around to ordering them.
- A Powerlite pre-engaged starter and Accuspark electronic ignition are also fitted.
- The cooling system operates well, with a Ford Fiesta Mk1 radiator and electric fan (manual) fitted. The original radiator leaked but I can supply it if refurbishment is desired in future.
- Chassis and underbody are in great condition. From what I can tell, the body shell was removed and the chassis painted during the restoration. Spax dampers are fitted, and I replaced the driveshaft couplings ('doughnuts') in around 2016.
- The engine and transmission operate well, and in general the car is a usable example in its current condition. I'm not sure if it's been resprayed in its life - the paint cleans up well with micro blistering to a few areas and signs of wear; it's not ever bothered me, but I'm sure it could be tidied or painted at some point, though it's not necessary. The Weathershields sun roof has a very small rip in the centre, which I've patched with a small black sticker.
-The interior is perfectly usable but you may opt to refresh it in future. Factory seatbelts with Ginetta logo are fitted. Original Smiths speedo and RVI tachometer.
To sum up, a great little sports car which turns heads and could be used this season after a quick check over. I've run it around the block occasionally during storage to keep things turning over, but it hasn't done any distance since 2018. Unlike many G15s it has remained largely unmolested and authentic. I've kept the historical files and books that were supplied to me, these will be yours to keep and can be viewed in the photographs.
I've tried to describe as accurately as I can, but please come and take a look to satisfy yourself of condition before seriously considering purchase. This car, JUD 730L, is a series 4 Ginetta G15, Chassis No 595.
Although it would have had a Hillman Imp engine at the outset, it now has a 930cc Hartwell-tuned Chrysler Sunbeam engine. (The Chrysler Sunbeam followed the Imp and the engine is essentially the same). The original 875cc engine comes with the car but would need rebuilding if it were ever fitted.
It was manufactured in the Sudbury factory, first registered on 21st September 1972 and carries a North Oxfordshire registration. The original owner and subsequent history is not known but it is believed to have been advertised in Exchange and Mart of 20 April 1978 by a company called ‘Wheels’ (Copy of paper included with sale). It was extensively restored by a previous owner in the 1990s and then sold to its next owner in Ipswich, Suffolk in the mid 90s.
It has a unique character and makes you smile when behind the wheel. The engine sounds great, and the chassis inspires confidence on those twisty B roads.
Too many projects awaiting completion, and new demands on my time mean that I've reluctantly decided that this special little car needs a new home.
