Description

1991 Honda Civic 1. 6i-VT EE9
Rare Pewter grey

The car is in very good condition inside and out, and mechanically perfect. You would struggle to find another original Civic EE9 in this condition out there, but that also drives faultlessly and a car that you can take out and enjoy.
Plus in one of the best original colours in my opinion. The paintwork is like glass, the photos don't do it justice.

Fresh MOT until April 2026

The car drives very well, VTEC engages and functions perfectly, it’s a smooth ride and tracks perfectly straight and is a lot of fun to drive.

It is also fitted with power steering like on the original EF9s which is a huge bonus, all the original fixing holes and brackets are there, so it looks original.

It was completely restored in 2018/ 19 by an award winning restorer who had many civics and CRX’s so he knew these cars well. The engine was also rebuilt, see details on the restoration below. The car has no rust and the shell is the best he had seen, with all its original panels. If there are Civics and CRX’s out there that haven't had some level of restoration and maintenance then they will need it and this car has had everything done.

When it was restored it had 125, 000 miles and it now has 140, 000 so essentially since full restoration it’s done 15, 000 miles

Before then it had quite a few different owners and remained in mint condition up until roughly 2012 which is when one of the owners modified the car with various changes, changed the wheels and did some other bits and pieces to it. This is why the previous owner wanted to restore the car and take it back to more original spec when he acquired it in 2016.

It’s only ever been in one accident, which was a very small bump to the bottom of the passenger side rear quarter panel where there was a small dent. This happened in 2006 and I’ve spoken with the owner who had the car at that time and he’s a very nice guy. Someone who was on their driving test made the wrong turn at a small junction and bumped into the bottom of the panel and dented it slightly. It was non-structural and the car sustained a small amount of damage which the then owner got fixed by pulling the dent out and had the area repainted. However because these cars were worth very little in 2006 the insurance classed it as a category D and said the cost of repairs to the damage outweighed the value of the car.

Because the old category codes changed in 2017 it was transferred over on the new system as a category C, which has the same definition, namely that if any damage on a car and the cost to repair it is more expensive than the value of the car, then it is written off.
So unfortunately it is on a category C which was originally a category D before the new system change, however unlike a lot of category cars, everything about what happened is known here and the owner is contactable, and the fact there has only ever been one accident and that it was a very small one, is a positive.

Given everything that has been done to this civic in my ownership and in the previous ownership with the restoration, I would say it’s one of the most original spec civics in the country and in such good condition because it was completely restored. Additionally because I sought a lot of genuine original new parts this really is noticeable on the car, such as the lights, trim, interior, steering wheel…etc

The only downsides or ‘negatives’ to the car is the number of owners it has had and the insurance category, however the fact that the history of the accident, and the category is all known and up front, and you can speak to the owner it happened to, I think is a positive.  A lot of cars with insurance categories on them the history is not known and nobody knows why the category is there or what happened in the accident. This car is category C for a very small prang in 2006 when the car had very little value.

The biggest positive though, that I think overrides the insurance category attached to the car and the high number of owners, is the fact the car was meticulously restored by a Civic/ CRX specialist and is now mint and has been very well cared for and looked after for the past 10 years. What you have is an original, mint and straight Civic that drives just as well as looks, ready to be enjoyed.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to view, I can easily meet up to show the car to you if you are seriously interested. Work done:

Notes from the restoration in 2018/ 19 (This is a brief summary of the restoration, there was much more done to the car) -

The car was stripped, the shell was in excellent condition only needing the
rear arches rebuilding, he used new rear arch outer repair panels which were fully welded in, and there were some small repairs to the sills where sill
cover fixings had been.

The whole car was inspected and it has its original wings, sills etc, none of its
body panels had been replaced, which is amazing on a Civic.
The car was rust proofed, wax oiled into the sills, and all enclosed areas.
The car was prepped for painting, fully primed and painted in its original colour.
The interior was removed and cleaned, the front door cards are CRX VTI which actually suit it quite well, everything else is standard.
The interior is in excellent condition with its original seats, very rare for one of these, many people at shows have commented they have never seen a complete interior before.
The suspension was removed and checked standard struts with KYB original spec springs, the front suspension is standard and had new ball joints, new anti roll bar bushes, track rod ends and wheel bearings. The rear suspension has alloy control arms, new track control arm bushes and anti roll bar bushes.
Brakes are standard EE9, with new discs and pads all round, damaged brake pipes were replaced with copper pipes.
A new fuel tank was fitted.

The engine was checked, the head was skimmed and rebuilt with the valves lapped in, new valve stem oil seals, Lma’s. The bottom end was inspected and checked and was in excellent condition, rebuilt with all new gaskets and seals. Cams, valve springs, inlet valves, Inlet manifold, Idle air control valve, throttle body and fuel pressure regulator all from a 1998 Honda Integra DC2 Type R were fitted to the engine. Since its engine overhaul Shell Helix 5w 40 Ultra fully Synthetic Oil has been used and only been run on premium E5 petrol, Shell or Momentum99.

The exhaust is a full stainless steel system which sounds very nice, not loud or obnoxious, has a really nice exhaust note and sound, it was custom made by an exhaust company in Halifax.

The gearbox was reconditioned by Grinspeed in Leyland, rebuilt with synchrotech carbon synchros, a Quaife Atb ”Lsd” is fitted to the gearbox, the gearbox was fitted with a new Exeddy clutch. A short shift gear change is fitted. Honda MTF3 gearbox oil has been used.
A new battery was fitted.
