Description

120 BHP Fast-Road, Chrome-Bumper 1973 Roadster.
Stage 3 Engine, only 8000 miles since re-build at Skiptune in 2022 and full front suspension re-build in 2023.
It drives like a brand new MGB. Only 75, 000 miles on the Odometer.
Full Body Restoration with new panels and respray in 2011 (would cost over £40, 000 today)
Over £15, 000 spent on making this a superb driving machine since 2022.
Upgraded front suspension.
Ready to drive to the South of France!
Superb condition, a very fast, beautifully driving MGB. Meet Phoenix, my very-fast-road MGB. With her full restoration, upgraded engine and front suspension, she is possibly the best-driving non-race-car roadster in the country.

I have owned the car for several years and kept her upgraded and maintained to the highest standard regardless of cost. I am only looking to sell her as I am looking to get myself into a 1950s car. I have spent £15, 000 on high quality upgrades for her since 2022.

WEU380L has the following upgrades:

A 120 bhp stage 3 engine (with dyno read-out). Since this, she has had a new performance distributor and a good tune-up, so estimated BHP is in fact 125 BHP.

One of the last engines re-built by Peter at Skiptune, he upgraded my already good engine with:

- Piper 285 Steel Billet Camshaft
- New Plugs
- Bores de-glazed
- New piston rings +20
- New Bearings
- New Oil Pump
- Duplex Diming Chain
- New Cam followers
- Crankshaft polished
- Valves cleaned
- Relapped Valves/ Vale Seats
- New Stem Seals

The engine also has:
- 1822cc overbore
- Big Valves
- Double Kent Valve Springs
- Hardened valve seats
- Rocker spacers
- Ported and polished intakes and exhaust passages
- Balanced crankshaft
- Lightened Flywheel
- Original Italian Weber 45 DCOE fully tuned and set up
- Barwell Inlet Manifold
- Big Bore free-flow exhaust manifold with long middle-branch
- Superb sounding Maniflow racing exhaust (not too loud, but a wonderful sound when you put your foot down).
- Performance distributor
- Upgraded coil pack
- Fuel pressure regulator
- Facet Fuel Pump
- Vernier timing gear
- Duplex timing chain

The engine oil stays beautifully clean even 1000 miles after a service, and oil pressure is superb. The engine runs beautifully smoothly, and you could drive it to the South of France and not worry about oil consumption.

Being a Stage 3+ engine the real power is 3000 RPM - 6500 RPM, but it's still very decently tractable for pootling around town with 110lb/ ft available through most of the rev range.

The engine was professionally run-in by Harding Auto Services on their rolling road to ensure longevity of the rebuild. I run a foam filter over the trumpet intakes (as well as the gauzes) for longevity too.

The engine suffers from no clunks and no plinking, not even under heavy load.
Compressions are excellent, all around 180 PSI (high compression engine).
It pulls strongly and revs smoothly and cleanly. Great for joining motorways down the slip road or overtaking.

The front suspension was upgraded by Hardings too, with:
- Upgraded 3/ 4 Anti-Roll Bar
- Upgraded stiffer springs (GT spec)
- New standard shocks (best for road use)
- All new polybushes, nuts, bolts etc.

It handles absolutely superbly, like a go-cart!

The car also benefits from 15 by 5. 5 inch black wire wheels with sticky Yokohoma tyres with the spare in the boot. A set of 14 inch knock-on Minilites comes with the car.

Mohair roof from 2023.
Mohair full tonneau.
Rally lamps.

The rally stickers are fully removable should they not be to your taste.

* Please note that just before its full restoration, the car was involved in a small prang denting the front bumper and door. Due to the condition (the car was in need of restoration), the then-owner decided to claim and the car has Category C.

The MG then had a full comprehensive body restoration with many new body panels. She is extremely tidy. She is waxoyled underneath, and also rustproofed inside her sills too (which are rock solid) - very sensible move! Any thorough inspection is most welcome. A huge number of MGBs have been damaged but simply repaired without an insurance claim, or badly restored to a much lesser standard than this car! She has an agreed valuation from Hagerty insurance for £20, 000, which I will be looking to update to £25, 000 considering recent values and work done. Without the Cat C I would be listing her at a considerably higher price (£20 - £25, 000) for such a fast, upgraded car in such straight and strong restored condition*

She also has:

- Paddy Hopkirk racing accelerator pedal (great for downshifts)
- Leather motolita steering wheel (wooden steering wheel included in the sale)
- Current seats are from an earlier car, as I am 6'4 and these give lots of room for the tall driver.
- Battery cut-off.
- Several boxes of spares should you wish.
- Serviced every 3000 miles with valvoline VR1.

I am open to sensible near offers from buyers who will take great care of her. Price reduced from £18, 500.
