Description
This 1970 MGB GT started out as a standard 1800 GT, in 2017 the car began it's transformation into a full professional Restomod V8. The car was fully stripped and the bodyshell taken down to bare metal, it was then given a full inspection and ALL rust was cut away and replaced, even the slightest hint of any rust was removed and replaced with new. The shell was then altered to fit the Rover V8 engine and 5 speed gearbox to the same Ken Costello conversion specification of utilising the Rover V8 and transplanting it into an already proven British Sports Car and transforming the performance. The bonnet was also replaced with a new steel RV8 bonnet to accommodate any kind of induction.
The shell was then treated and painted in Metallic Black with the underside treated to a modern synthetic spray sealant. The whole process was meticulously and professionally carried out by specialist classic car restorers. At this point the shell is now complete and great starting point for the next phase and with it still being an original factory shell it was well worth the time and effort to get to this stage even though the cost so far was in line with a new heritage shell.
The following works were then professionally carried out at the same restorers.
Rebuilt and tuned Rover V8 3. 9 engine fitted with a Kent fast road camshaft.
New full 5 link rear suspension by frontline Developments.
New front coilover suspension upgrade by Frontline Developments.
New uprated front brakes and genuine V8 brake calipers.
Overhauled genuine V8 Differential with correct 3. 07:1 ratio.
LT77 5 speed gearbox.
Custom dash with all new correct V8 clocks and dials.
Custom interior to include carpets door cards roof lining and trim (these were all custom made by a classic car vehicle trimmer and not the cheap bought off the shelf interior)
Custom 15" V8 reproduction alloy wheels including spare.
Brand new door windows and front screen.
Complete new big bore exhaust.
New fuel tank.
New radiator.
New side chromes and window chromes.
The list is long and these parts are either brand new or fully refurbished and a full list of all the parts is available on request.
As you can see the car is not complete however the outstanding jobs required to complete is very small in comparison. All the parts come with the car with the exception of seats.
To get the car to this stage took nearly a thousand hours of labour and £26, 000 in parts. The cost of a heritage shell is £17500 alone before any paint is even considered so the asking price for this car is an absolute bargain.
I have many more photos showing the build process and are available on request.
