Beschrijving

Three owners from new, the second owner, a garage owner, purchased the vehicle in April 1977 and the current owner purchased it in 1999, the original v5 is available from this date, now superseded by the new v5 issued in April 2025 changing the vehicle to historic tax class. The mileage shows 45, 450 which is believed to be 145, 000 on the original engine. The previous owner sprayed oil on the chassis from nearly new, and although messy, the chassis is very sound and will not need a body off restoration like many scimitars do. The front outriggers, one rear outrigger, and the anti roll bar mounts have been renewed by the current owner. The current owner has replaced many of the items scimitars need over his ownership, but the car has been garaged and little used, however it is now being used as a daily for summer. Main items replaced are:-
Manual choke conversion
Autobox replaced with manual and overdrive (all Se5 parts from Dave McGregor of High Peak Classics, a well known scimitar expert)
Propshaft uj’s
Wolfrace wheels
Stainless steel :- exhausts, fuel tank, water coolant pipes, wheel nuts.
Polybushes – rear arms, watts link, front suspension bushes
Trunnion bush kit, new fulcrums and suspension plates
Steel timing gear replacing fragile fibre gear
Fuse box replaced with blade fuses and relays on main electrical loads to improve reliability
Lumenition electronic ignition
Weber DGAS repair kit
4 new Kumho tyres Feb 23
Parts in the last 3 months:- Varta battery; stainless steel calliper pistons / rebuilt callipers / new rear wheel brake cylinders. Oil and filter change. New clutch slave cylinder.
New fuel sender unit as of 17th May.
New rear hatch gas struts as of 24th May
New engine temperature sender as of 28th May.

The interior is almost like new. The webasto roof is in excellent condition
The paintwork is shiny and presents well, a lot of it seems original, but shows its age on closer inspection (small crazing, flaking, microblisters typical of Reliants / glass fibre cars)
The engine runs well with strong oil pressure. The cooling fan kicks in as it should when the temperature gauge reaches 90 degrees (the new sensor now fitted ) The overdrive works. The inhibitor switch which prevents engagement of overdrive in 1st 2nd and more importantly reverse, is functional and the overdrive switch gives 12v to the solenoid in third and fourth only as it should.

Niggles:-
-rear boot lock closes perfectly but doesn’t lock
No longer a niggle:-
-the fuel gauge now works after a new fuel sender unit has been fitted.
-new rear hatch gas struts now hold up hatch as it should
-new temperature sensor has corrected the overreading temp gauge (old sensor must have been Ford one rather than the Reliant one now purchased from QRG scimitar dealer.)

The seller has tried to give an honest assessment of the vehicle at point of sale, but no warranty is implied or intended, so buyers need to satisfy themselves by their own observations before purchase, accepting with a 51 year old car that faults major or minor could arise at any time.
That said, the car is now in daily use and the owner is happy to facilitate any inspection or questions.
