The very first Corvette was introduced to the world in 1953. Since then, it has gone through a fascinating evolution – starting as a car with hidden headlights, a 3. 9-liter inline-six engine, and a 2-speed automatic transmission, it transitioned to exposed round headlights, and by 1958, to a four-headlight design. The creation of the GM team led by Harley Earl became a legend with its fiberglass bodywork. By 1962, a total of 69, 015 units were built – the majority of them in that final production year. Under the hood: a 4. 6-liter V8 with either a four-barrel carburetor or fuel injection. The 1960–1962 versions featured a redesigned rear end (a nod to the upcoming C2 Sting Ray) and the distinctive quad-headlight front.
That’s the brief historical context. The offered 1960 Corvette C1 in a beautiful two-tone color scheme comes with several advantages: about seven years ago, it underwent a high-quality full restoration, and it now looks as if it just rolled out of the showroom. It stands out with its sculpted lines and the charming quirks of its era. Plus, unlike many others, it doesn’t have a dull automatic – it features a 3-speed manual gearbox, which adds authenticity and engagement to the driving experience.
The engine is a small-block 4. 6-liter V8 (283 cui) delivering 233 hp and 407 Nm of torque. We’ve personally test-driven this fully functional car with its flawless engine and gearbox, and we’re happy to stand behind the claim that this is a truly stunning example of the first-generation Corvette. All that’s left is to register it, fuel it up, and head for the sunshine.
