Description
Here for sale is my lovely 1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500.
It’s a very honest Spitfire, there’s no hidden surprises. It’s lovely to drive, great fun and priced very fairly.
I have owned for almost 4 years and in that time it has had a full engine rebuild (invoice and pictures below), stripped and rebuilt carbs, all brake system replaced or refurbished, new carpets and I’ve had the car routinely serviced. Current milage is 72406 - this might increase a little as I continue to enjoy it. It has the standard 4 speed non-overdrive box which is in excellent condition, selects and changes very smoothly
This car is a great classic for anyone looking for their first or an easy to maintain classic car. MOT, Tax and ULEZ exempt.
I love driving it and it's a regular at local shows, meet ups and club nights. I'm always stopped to talk every time I take it out. It's a very pretty little car that gets some attention.
Here’s the detail…
Externally, paintwork looks good and is in okay condition, though not perfect, some small areas which could be addressed if you wish, this is very minor and has never concerned me in the slightest. It polishes up nicely. As you can see from the photos, it is very presentable indeed.
Structurally, this car is sound, outriggers etc are all sound and I’ve never needed to have any structural work carried out.
Internally, it is cool! It is mostly original, like the dash, seats, armrest & rear quarter panels. Some vinyl has been replaced before my ownership. The dash shows some signs of age but is perfectly presentable. All gauges working as they should. I have replaced the carpets with a full new set in complementing autumn leaf, to keep that lovely 70s feel. I’ve also added a new 'old stock' cassette radio with a bluetooth cassette to sync to my phone.
Mechanically, as mentioned above, I had the engine professionally rebuilt, including top end, (all invoiced and pictures available) in June 2022 along with stripped and rebuilt carbs.
Major service June 2024, ehere (also mentioned above) brake system was fully gone through with new discs, pads, cylinders, as well as all the usual work expected with a major service (fluids, filters etc).
Other work includes refurbished original wheels including the spare, recent new tyres, electronic ignition (Lumenition), Facet Posi-Flow electric fuel pump kit.
Sometime in its history I think it has had a new speedo fitted, I have nothing in my history file that documents this, but the mileage suggests this. I bought it with circa 69, 900 on the clock and have done circa 2, 500 miles after the engine rebuild. Not unusual with a car of this age.
I have had lots of work professionally carried out, which is all invoiced. The engine pulls along comfortably at 60mph, though doing 60mph in a Spitfire feels more like 90 compared to a modern car.
I have an original hard top that I bought but never fitted, it has all fixings and I will include in the sale, if wanted, plus tonneau and soft top cover.
In summary, whilst not concourse, this is a very lovely and useable classic car with room to improve should you wish. It presents well and always puts a smile on faces, including mine!
As you will see from the invoices, I have spent a lot on it and work carried out has always been very thorough and professional, genuinely no expense spared on anything needed.
The time comes to pass this on to its next custodian, as I need something with 4 seats.
This is the perfect time to pick up this little Spitfire for a Summer of fun, top down motoring.
Advertised £1, 000 less than Car and Classic valuation!! Don’t miss this one, before it’s too late. I will listen to sensible offers. Old MOTs, valuation documents and various service / repair bills dating back 30+ years
V5C logbook in my name.
