Description
A lovely 1965 Thunderbird 6T 650cc with matching numbers on the engine and frame. Genuine 8209 miles from new with all paperwork to back it up. This bike also benefits from having been converted to Boyer electronic ignition, making it easier to start.
Just a stunning bike which is totally unmolested and in original condition with 2 owners from brand new. The first owner was active in the Triumph Owner's Club back in the 1960's and he fastidiously looked after this bike. It is 'Historic Vehicle' registered, so therefore no tax or MOT required.
She starts and runs, but ideally will require a minor recommissioning (a weekend's tinkering) to put back on the road. A good overall service including fluid changes and fresh tyres, that type of thing. A brand new battery was fitted in January this year along with two new coils and 2 spark plugs. The carburettor and fuel tank have been cleaned but even though she starts, she doesn't idle properly on tick-over. I suspect the carburettor jets need a bit of fettling to get her spot on.
The map holder on the petrol tank is quite an unusual and useful feature, it opens on a hinge and maps or some tools can be stored in there.
The sale includes a host of historic papers and MOT's dating back, along with the original owner's buff logbook. There are a couple of parts catalogues (No 3 and 4) and the original owner's handbook. There is also a bar end mirror to fit the bike as seen in the photos. The bike was last MOT'd in 2018.
Please see the photos as they form a large part of this description. I also have a video of the bike running, but this site is unable to take video. Get in touch if you wish to see the footage. This is a beautiful example of a rare bike and she exudes eons of genuine charm and character. I was told the bike hasn't been properly ridden since 2019 and the previous owner has now passed away. This was his total pride and joy and I can very well see why.
A wonderful piece of motorcycle history, there are only a few authentic Thunderbird 6Ts around like this now. This one only requires a minimum amount of effort to put safely back to the road. the details below
