An attractively specified and early TR6, around the 1, 700th made, originally supplied to the US and restored in Canada before arriving in the UK in 2013.
The TR6 was launched in 1969 and most notably featured a Karmann designed facelift of the Michelotti designed TR4/ 5 body. The front and rear areas were re-designed to be more squared off to keep in line with evolving trends and the 2. 5l straight six introduced on the TR5 was carried over. US market cars were fitted with twin Stromberg carburettors only whilst European market cars had the option of Lucas fuel injection. The model proved to be a huge success with around 92, 000 produced up to 1976. Of this number, 80% were sold to the US.
This particular car is a very early example being chassis number 26715 (the first TR6 was 25001) and was first supplied to Fernadle, Washington state in 1969 before being sold in Vancouver, Canada in 1993 and then again in Victoria, British Colombia in 1998. The car was then sold again in Canada in 2008 where it was then completely restored before returning to the UK and registered in 2013. As a CC prefix chassis number, it is an original carburettor car.
The car has a couple of features that are unique to these very early examples, those being the integrated tilting seat headrests and the panel beading between the rear wings and deck.
Between 2008-2010 the car had a body off restoration with a large photo file (including disk) supplied. The large history file details the extent of the work carried out, amounting to $26, 995 and including a number of upgrades to complement the restoration. These included an SU carburettor conversion to replace the original twin Strombergs, twin exit stainless steel exhaust, high torque starter and Lumenition electronic ignition.
The car has been well cared for since its restoration with the paintwork still in excellent condition (the spots are from sudden rainfall during photography!) and black seats and dark blue carpets in good condition. The car also comes with full size rubber mats for both footwells to protect the carpets. The 15″ steel rims were fitted in 2015 and complete the look of the car. The beige hood is in good condition and folds away neatly, a black vinyl tonneau is also provided and can be fitted with both headrests folded down.
The car runs well on the road with the SU carburetted engine giving plenty of poke, mated to the 4 speed manual transmission, and a fantastic soundtrack from the stainless twin exit exhaust.
The history file is large and contains a vast number of invoices including those detailing work during its restoration. Also included are the original Washington registration certificates.
An early example of one of the great sports cars in an attractive colour combination, an excellent choice for Sunday motoring or long distance touring.
