Description
Due to the dissolution of my small private collection for reasons of age, I am selling this unique collector's item. Trade-in up to €30, 000 possible. The Austin Special Sports 4. 0 litre 6 cylinder offered here, manufactured on 13 February 1948, was registered as a two-seater convertible. This period marked the beginning of a new era for the automotive industry, which was recovering after the hardships of World War II. Inspired by the pre-war vehicles of e. g. Bentley Speed Six, Aston Martin, Mercedes SSK, Lagonda and other elephant-class sports cars, mostly with a wheelbase of 2. 90 m to approx. 3. 80 m (as a four-seater), this unique Austin Special Sports classic with a length of 4. 40 m, a wheelbase of 3. 03 m and a raised armrest height of 1. 40 m was created. The ladder-frame chassis largely corresponds to that of the Bentley from this period, and because the 4-litre 6-cylinder in-line engine is robust and stable, it was used successfully in various types over many years. With one carburettor, it produces around 115 hp and can develop over 150 hp with triple carburettors. A 4-speed manual gearbox transmits the power to the rear axle. Over the course of its 77-year lifetime, the bodywork, which is welded to the chassis, was restored and converted to its current condition. The dashboard is made of stainless steel and the seats are newly upholstered in leather. The 19-inch spoked wheels with Blockley tyres (830 mm high) are new and have never been driven. The long bonnet (total 2000 mm) is made of aluminium and is held in place with leather straps. The car has a basic colour of (BRG) british racing green. Where else can you find cars like this today that are not only in good condition but also tell a story? The looks from admirers, the enthusiastic comments and the memories they will create are priceless. The asking price, which in my opinion is well below value, will increase enormously once the car is registered for road use and has plenty of potential for a six-figure increase in value over the next few years. The vehicle has the English VEHICLE REGISTRATION DOCUMENT and was imported to Germany in 2013. It does not yet have a German MOT. All safety-relevant parts should be checked and, if necessary, repaired before commissioning. The car has been in my collection for several years and is therefore being offered as a classic car project. This is a private sale under exclusion of liability for material defects. The sale takes place as inspected and under exclusion of any warranty for visible and invisible defects.
