Description

1931 Alvis 12/ 50 TJ Atlantic Carbodies sports saloon.
Manchester registered by Henlys and supplied to the first owner in Finchley, London. A matching numbers car with an interesting history and evidence of military use at some time ( brass pennant holders on the wings and a cockpit navigation lamp fitted). The previous keeper re trimmed to original spec ( best quality leather), rebuild engine including white metal and clutch, re plated bright work, fitted a stainless steel exhaust, had the radiator rebuilt and carried out sufficient work to use the car for holidays in Scotland, Wales and Spain. Registered in March, 1931, possibly the earliest of the 2nd design of Atlantic saloon.
I purchased as a lock down project to keep myself occupied, the car certainly achieved this. Now presents as an original car just showing a little patina, very good condition with the addition of electronic fuel gauge, indicators and brake lights, rebuilt dynamo ( Robson&Francis) with electronic control, electric fan and temperature gauge ( not required to date).
Additional work during the last five years include rebuilt rear wheel arches, where Carbodies saloons tend to deteriorate (laminated marine ply), rebuilt front doors ( now fitted with top weather seals and wax oiled, all new ash and marine ply laminate has also been treated), rebuilt wheels, rebuilt suspension, brake overhaul including new cables and rear shoes, steering box overhaul, rebuilt shock absorbers. Decoke and new head gasket, not forgetting a speedometer rebuild. Exellent door fits and opening windscreen.
The car now drives as it should, rattle free, comfortable, and with surprisingly good handling , a reliable all weather touring car.
Sale includes a large history file, photographs of restoration work and a big pile of expensive receipts. Tool storage area’s built in under the floor.
I have a spare copy of “ The Vintage Alvis Manuel” which I will include.
Oil pressure when warm is about 40lbs at tick over, any other questions, please ask.

Yes, transmission is quiet, gear box in vgc , no outstanding work required.
The engine is fitted with a full flow oil filter conversion ( filter and oil recently changed), also eligible for VSCC events.
