VW Split screen Campervan 1965 (Splitty)
I have owned Splitty for 24 years and during that time have many happy hours touring the UK.
In 2009 I decided to fully restore the vehicle to my dream vehicle, I was very fortunate to already know the person I could trust to complete this restoration to his and my high standard. The person in mind just happened to be my neighbour who is a fully qualified painter and panel beater of the old school.
We removed all the parts both exterior and interior to a rolling shell. Ian then took the vehicle to the body shop where he started by stripping the shell back to bare metal. At which point he started to cut out any corroded areas and weld in new panels where needed.
The exterior was prepared and etch primed and undercoated. We then focused on the interior, by preparing etching, priming and finishing in top coat. The exterior was then prepared for top coats. Sprayed with 3 coats of basecoat, followed by 3 coats of clear lacquer.
Colour of Splittie, Audi Amulettrot and Porsche Cream.
Once returned home I then made arrangements to have the interior fully trimmed which includes new headlining cloth, all door and interior trim panels. Raising roof material, all done by Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers.
I was fortunate that leather front bench seats came with the vehicle, and in excellent condition.

Kitchen was supplied by and fitted by RVTEC-Europe. Included, Rock and Roll Bed, 2 Burner Gas Hob, Sink Unit, 2 swivel table tops, built in Cool Box, various built-in cupboards and small wardrobe, and a buddy seat (for toilet).
Professionally rewired 12-volt system, with CSP Wiper Conversion 6V to 12V.
Engine built by Lawrie Pettit (well-known Scottish engine builder), in time after the restoration. Milage done since then 4959 I have enjoyed driving Splittie

5 88H Tyres, 185/ 65R15 good condition, lots of tread. I have very much enjoyed owning and driving Splitty, but not had the time over the last few years to drive this lovely vehicle due to now owning a motorhome.
