1956 Norton Manx 40M – 348cc

Frame no. 11M 69373 – May 1956. Supplied to Harold Towner for rider Tommy Robb

Engine shop no. YM85 – Mar 1955. Supplied to Demont of Geneva for rider Maurice Quincey.

Gearbox     No G50 1793 - 4 speed AMC close ratio

Fuel tank    choice of 2 both sprint tanks – 1 Aluminium, 1 fibre glass.

Wheels     Front Borrani 18”
        Rear  Dunlop 18”

Brakes     Front Manx twin leading shoe
        Rear  Manx single leading shoe

Magneto    Lucas 2MTT Competition Mag.

Carburettor  1 3/ 8 GP2 carb with matchbox float

The bike was restored by Robin Williamson of Oakham, a well known solo and sidecar racer, who owned his own engineering company.

Purchased from his estate along with 4 other bikes.

As the bike had not run for a while, I commissioned Andy Savage, one of the worlds top Manx engine builders to totally strip the engine, check, make improvements where necessary and rebuild.

The last image is of Andy starting the bike for the first time after the rebuild.
