Description
Concours condition, multi-award winning, 1934 Austin 10/ 4 chrome radiator saloon, subject to a fully documented and photographed nut-and-bolt rebuild, undertaken by a recently retired and obsessive nuclear power plant manger.
The rebuild involved a full, no-expense-spared, body-off and bare metal restoration (completed in 2015), with new ash frame, shotblasted and powder coated wheels and chassis, full rebuild of engine (all bearings white metalled, rebored, new valve gear) rebuilt gearbox, transmission, fuel supply, suspension and brakes. New or replacement parts fitted as required. New wiring loom and 12v electrics. Professional retrim in blue leather with Wilton Carpets. Professional repaint (dark blue over black). Professional refurbishment and re-chroming of radiator, bumpers etc. New tyres, window seals and rubbers. New teak running boards and new rubber covers.
All matching numbers with original, valuable, and transferable number plate. Meticulously maintained and kept in a heated, well ventilated, garage.
Owned for the last three years by the secretary of the West Sussex Austin Ten Drivers' Club, and only being sold owing to family illness. I bought the car in 2023, having been searching for a fully rebuilt, concours-standard, chrome radiator Austin 10, that required no work and could be used and enjoyed immediately.
I'd learned the hard way, from the previous purchase of a supposedly immaculate MGA, that even marque specialists sometimes resort to hard-to-spot shortcuts; and this time wanted to acquire a car where the rebuild had been directly undertaken, or directly overseen, by an obsessive long-term owner.
Rebuilding an Austin 10/ 4 to prize-winning standard, costs many times more than its commercial value, which is why examples of this quality are a very rare find.
