Velocette Viceroy. ( 297 xwb ) Description and history of this 1961 Viceroy Scooter.
First registered 8th Feb 1961. ( Had been on 27 BWD redg ). Went to the Isle of Man -April 1976. Registration there was MAN 158J. In 2010 was purchased by Anthony East (A. R. E ) the collector and museum owner from Kirk Michael. He restored this Viceroy to a showable and running standard. The initials A. R. E remain on the bike.

After Anthony passed, his family chose to dispose of the whole collection. This was done at the Stafford Classic show in 2023. The Viceroy was still on its Isle of Man registration at that point. There are IOM registration documents with the bike, I bought it there, and got it UK registered. Which is got, after being examined by DVLA's representative. It became 297 XWB on Dec 1st 2023. There are documents about its registration.

Along with a new embossed number plate it also had a pair of new 6v battery's. there are receipts for both.

Since then, it has been lightly used it to ride to local events, including taking it to the classic show at Thorton le Dale last year where it won " best bike " ( see photos ). It's had a 7-page feature in ScooterNova magazine issue 44 from August 2024, which comes with the bike.

Starting easily as it should, I had its starter motor reconditioned by a specialist in the Midlands, it looked just like a new motor when it came back, which made its £150 fee good value.
I opted to put on a sport-flyscreen.

It is in very good condition overall. All the electrics work well. Added extra's to-date are .. DVLA registration . Embossed rear plate. 2 6v batterys . Recon starter motor. pair of chrome mirrors too..
There is a service manual, owners handbook and a coloured poster-sized advertisement .

Can be viewed in Barton on Humbe ( DN18 area ). £4950 with free delivery up to 100 miles from the Humber Bridge. A rare and unusual scooter, formally in a museum collection on the Isle of man, where it was kept in running order by a serious collector ( Anthony R East ).
Using a horizontally opposed 2 stroke twin 247cc engine.
With its low down shaft drive, the weight is easily managed.
Futuristic looks, it will attract attention where ever its shown- as it did when it won Best in Show at Thornton dale last year.
Dare to be different with this rarely seen English scooter.
