Description
This is my Series 1, a lock down project that got out of control. The car has been restored to the highest standard with no expense spared, every nut and bolt. The car retains all its original engine gearbox and axles, the original 1. 6 engine overhauled by Cox & Turner, gearbox overhauled by R Whitehouse & Son. All new body panels with exception of the bonnet, windscreen vent and gearbox cover. All galvanized parts re galvanized, new seats and hood, the car is as new. Extensive photo diary kept of the restoration. Sales particulars show the vehicle was sold on 22nd April 1950 by Grenvilles of Sydney as a complete vehicle and not a CKD (CKD's did not start until a year or so later), to Snowy Mts Hydro Electric Authority. The vehicle was originally supplied with a rear P. T. O which sadly is no longer with the vehicle. Considering shipment of vehicles to Australia at that time took in excess of three months I assume the vehicle was finished in UK towards the end of 1949, the car also has some early features that confirm this, such as a one sided accelerator linkage and a badge on the radiator stamped 5/ 49. The vehicle was rescued and repatriated in 2019. I bought the vehicle late in 2019 and set about restoration in 2020 when the covid lockdown started. During dismantling of the vehicle I quickly became aware that early Australian mechanics possessed only two tools, a big hammer and an arc welder. After many months of meticulous work and reckless spending the vehicle is now complete and looking quite lovely. Since completion the vehicle has lived in my nice warm garage and has hardly turned a wheel, I now need the space and must let her go to someone who might appreciate her more than I can.
