Mini Cooper S Evocation R1 Yamaha
Based on a 1978 Mini 1000 this can has been completely stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt with heritage panels . Tax and MOT exempt and marked as a historic vehicle on the V5.
The shell has been lightened and fitted with a copy ( in aluminium) of a period 3 point aleybar roll cage.
The subframes have been seam welded and lightened, then powder coated with black crackle finish.
Suspension is fully rose jointed using MED race components, even the hubs front and rear are minisport billet aluminium with four pot alloy callipers at the front and alloy mini fins at the rear.
Shock absorbers are gas adjustable.
Bonnet and boot are GRP and the door skins are aluminium.
The doors have been converted to outside hinges and glazing is classic sliding smoked lightweight LEXAN.
Interior has a rear seat delete and lightweight Lotus Elise front seats with inflatable lumber support.
Four point harness for the driver and three point inertia belt for the passenger.
Everything possible has been done to reduce the weight of the car but keep a road car look with carpets and trim.
The engine is a Yamaha R1 5PW ( fuel injected) producing 160 + hp with a Barnett HD clutch kit installed, using a Lynx AE engine fitting kit, ( see YouTube) running through a sealed LSD to the front wheels.
It has a compact electric motor for reverse. Full stainless four branch manifold with stainless RC40 exhaust. The good point of using the Lynx cradle is that if you wanted to change back to an A series engine. There are no modifications to the front subframe and the cradle uses regular BMC engine mounts. ( I do have an MPI engine and box in reserve) However , with more than 160hp, sequential box and a ITB soundtrack at 11, 500 rpm , why would you.
Painted in Willow green and old English white. ( in reverence to Nick Swift's Swiftune appendix K racer) It is very close to concours condition.
The wheels are 4 1/ 2 j rose petals with Yokohama road legal semi slick tyres.
The car's suspension geometry, tracking and corner weighting has been done.
The car is unbelievably fast and very light. Many many build photos are also available. This car has been built over many years with no expense spared.
