1996 Mitsubishi J55 Jeep 2. 7 Turbo Diesel
Mitsubishi were granted license from Willys to build Jeeps in 1953 and continued to manufacture until 1998. Originally for Military, Forestry and Police use, they achieved cult status in Japan and so were produced for the consumer market from 1958 to 1998. Whilst mechanically the Jeeps have moved with the times, the body has remained faithful to the original, instantly recognisable Willys design. Having not been produced for 28 years, they are now themselves a classic, and the value of these has begun to climb
This 1996, J55 model is finished in original black with gold and white livery and gold alloy wheels. Since coming to the UK, it has seen light use mainly on dry summer days. Usually with the soft top taken off. Consequently, the condition is excellent for its age with no rust etc. There are the odd age-related marks and dings which could easily be sorted but I have been happy to leave original as it adds to the patina and character of the vehicle.
This model has the ultra-reliable 4DR6 2. 7 Turbo Diesel engine which runs perfectly and never fails to start first time. Everything works as it should and it will be supplied with a full MOT.
Soft top is a good fit and does a very good job of keeping the weather out. With the top off, it is great fun to drive and real head-turner.
Since I imported it in 2020 it has had the following
• Engine service
• Clutch re-lined
• 5 Brand new tyres
• 2 new batteries (24V so needs 2)
• 2 new headlamps (brighter sealed units)
• Bucket seats fitted.
• Alloy wheels have been powder coated in gold as this is as the original steel wheels would have been.
• Full MOT
In summary, a real head turner that offers all the fun and charm of a rattly old Jeep but with the advantage of Japanese build quality and right-hand drive. All in all, a largely orginal and very capable 4x4 that is ready for road trips, off roading, or whatever you want to throw at it!
Genuine reason for sale. I have other classic cars and need to make space. It is time for someone new to use and enjoy it out there on the rough stuff!Imported myself from Japan in 2020. All correctly registered and road legal for UK.
