Description
This is a genuine and highly collectable 1959 Morris Mini Minor, finished in Cherry Red. It has its original body, engine and interior. It really is a piece of motoring history!
I bought it in 2013 from its fifth owner. The buff logbook shows that he and all the previous owners lived in and around Hull, the car having been originally bought from Kennings (Hull) Ltd.
The BMI Heritage Certificate show that it was manufactured in December 1959 and sent to Kennings on 4 March 1960. It was first registered on 8 March.
The last owner restored the shell but kept the original interior and all the essential features of these very early cars. It lacked only a UGB 16 glass washer bottle, an example of which I subsequently managed to find and which will come with the car.
The mileage now stands at 45, 800. It was 45, 100 when I bought it and had only covered 15 miles in the previous year. In my ownership the car has needed no restoration just careful preservation. It has always been garaged and used sparingly but never in the rain or on salted roads. The subframes and panel joints are all rust-free.
Four years ago it had new brake cylinders and shoes plus a full service including greasing of all suspension and steering joints. A compression test showed a healthy 160 psi in all cylinders.
More recently I have fitted four new Calmac radial tyres of the design that was used in period when upgrading from the original cross-plys and which greatly improve the handling.
This is a very rare car. There are only 40 Morris versions on the 1959 Mini Register and that includes those abroad, non-runners and "better than new" restorations. To fully appreciate the character of these amazing cars you need one that's been preserved not restored and which goes, feels and even smells as it should. There are even fewer of those and 8210 KH is one of them. I'd love to keep it but loss of garage space makes that impossible.
