Description
Fantastic, highly desirable Citroën XM 2. 5 TD manual Estate in the rare and high-spec VSX trim, sitting on original factory alloy wheels.
I originally bought this simply to harvest parts for my other XM. However, where my other XM was an MOT failure which required significant welding before I could get it back on the road, this shell is in excellent structural condition.
With sorted 2. 5 Estates now carrying agreed insurance valuations upwards of £7, 000, this is a brilliant entry point.
If I didn't have my CX project demanding my full attention (and space!!), I would keep this an thoroughly enjoy it.
This car successfully participated in the 2015 Citroën Classic Challenge across France (photos of it on the rally are included in the gallery). During the trip in the Pyrenees, the 2. 5 TD engine suffered head gasket failure. It was dosed with K-Seal to get it home and amazingly completed the rally around France and drove home to Gloucestershire.
It was parked in a dry barn, where it has sat for the last 10 years awaiting the head gasket replacement, which was sadly never done due to the owners ill health.
The starter motor is currently spinning but not engaging from sitting, but I have turned the engine over by hand and it is completely free.
The brakes are NOT seized. The car rolls freely, which makes winching it onto a trailer very easy.
To save you the hassle, the previous owner already started the top-end teardown. The radiator pack, battery box, boost hoses, and LHM reservoir have already been removed to give you clear access to the block. All removed parts are included safely in the (absolutely VAST) boot, plus a brand new replacement LHM reservoir.
Very solid shell for its age: Inner wings, strut tops, and floors (basically everywhere that I can see, which all normally disintegrate) are in fantastic condition. Even the jacking points are intact. Being fair, it is 30yr old after all! There is some non-structural cosmetic rust and bubbling on the rear wheel arch lips, a crusty spot at the end of the sill, and a shallow dent on the rear passenger door (all honestly photographed), but overall it is a remarkably solid starting point. Not found any lacquer peel at all, everything should cut and polish up to its former glory with some elbow grease.
I have quickly bolted the front end back together so you can see nothing is missing. Note: It includes a replacement VSX front bumper (with the correct headlamp washers) painted in metallic green, so it and the headlamp shroud will need a quick blow-over in white to match. There's also a replacement scuttle panel from the same car, which unusually has intact end caps. The incredibly rare windscreen trims are still present and fitted correctly, as are the roof rail bungs - from previous experience both these items whistle horribly if they're missing!
Fully electric black leather interior, height-adjustable centre armrest, black carpets, black headlining, and the extended wood trim. It even has it's rear parcel shelf, which is not only intact but is in mint condition! Powering it up briefly, everything seems to work as it should - even the sunroof!!
The V5C is present and will come with a clear receipt of sale and a great history file including original manuals and service book.
This is a non-running project which will need to be trailered away (there is very easy, level access for a transporter trailer to back right up to the car).
It is an honest, straightforward 2. 5 manual VSX estate with a great story that deserves to be put back on the road.
First to see it with a trailer takes it. Message me to arrange a viewing!
I can most likely assist with mainland UK delivery if you're struggling. I originally bought this car for one simple reason: spare parts for my daily XM estate (which it turns out rolled off the line 4 days prior to this one!). However, once I got it home and properly inspected it, I realised I couldn't bring myself to break this. My other XM (another white 2. 5td estate) was an MOT failure and required significant welding before I could get it back on the road, whereas this shell is in excellent structural condition.
This takes the biggest fear out of a 90s Citroën project - the terrifying rust issues simply aren't here. It’s a completely honest, blank canvas. A rare, high-spec VSX manual estate that stands out because it’s a genuine survivor, not a rotten parts donor. If my CX project wasn't demanding all my space and attention, I would be rebuilding this myself.
