Description
I am offering my 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint DHC for sale. I’ve owned the car for nearly six years and it is now pretty much as good as it gets. I have a huge history file detailing the many tens of thousands of pounds worth of work that’s been carried out on my car.
A brief rundown of what’s been done to the car in the last 9-10 years or so:
New chassis and rebuild work including all the suspension, brakes, and reconditioned wheels with new spinners at Paul Matty
New interior installed and much further rebuilding carried out
Full respray to a properly prepared body with good door fitment
Total mechanical rebuild of the car by Spydercars
New carpets including boot retrim
New hood (Old/ original hood will be supplied with the car)
New dashboard
Electric upgrade for headlight lifts
Electrically heated windscreen
The car was finished in February 2017. The then owner covered only some 300 miles when I purchased the car from him, in September 2020.
Much of the car is original such as the gear knob, seat belt buckles (but mounted on new belts from Sue Miller at Mick Miller) and steering wheel, obviously having the Colin Chapman ‘signed’ wheel.
I continued the good work to bring the car up to an even higher standard of restoration and usability.
I replaced the rubber donut drive shafts with Col Croucher’s Elantrikbits CVDS units from Australia - the most expensive on the market but the best.
Rob Morley of RatRace built, balanced and blueprinted my Sprint’s Twincam engine, so that it’s now exactly as that the car deserves. After being properly run in, the car was rolling road tuned by Tom Airey. This showed that my car produces 136 bhp (you will know that a factory fresh Sprint was listed by Lotus to produce 126 bhp, so this car goes very well indeed!).
Other work in my ownership:
Ceramic coated four branch exhaust manifold
New full width Coolex radiator with twin electric fans (I did not want this car to overheat!)
New alternator
New brake light switch
New period correct Cinturato tyres from Longstone
New water temperature / oil pressure dual gauge
New rear suspension struts and springs
New electronic ignition
New fuel pump
This is a genuine Elan Sprint as verified with a Certificate of Provenance from Andy Graham of Lotus, and I believe that this Elan Sprint is as good a one as you will find anywhere. If you are interested in viewing the car then please get in touch, I am based in east Hertfordshire where the car is well known in the local classic car scene.
Thank you for reading.
