Description
1980 Triumph T140D Special – One Family Ownership from New
This is a very difficult sale. The bike was bought new by my dad in 1980 and remained with him until now. It is now registered in my name, making it technically a two-owner bike, but it has been in the same family from new.
The only reason I'm selling is that I've not managed to get to grips with the kickstart. I'd much rather see the bike being ridden and enjoyed than sitting unused. For someone familiar with these bikes, starting isn't an issue - it typically starts in 1 - 2 kicks from cold and usually first kick when warm.
My dad maintained all of his own motorcycles and cared for this Triumph meticulously. The mileage is unknown due to a replacement clock, but I know the bike was used very sparingly before it was dismantled, as he owned several motorcycles and this was never a high mileage machine.
Over 25 years ago, after an oil warning light appeared, he stripped the engine with the intention of rebuilding it. Sadly, illness prevented him from completing the project and the bike remained untouched for decades.
Wanting to see his bike back on the road, I commissioned a full restoration by a former Triumph engineer who worked on the T140D's back in the day. The bike now runs beautifully and has benefited from new Amal Mk2 carburettors, battery, chain, wiring refresh and replacement seals where required. Original exhaust, silencer and tank have been retained, with only the handlebars differing from standard specification.
Restoring this bike was my way of honouring my dads memory. Now I'd like to find someone who will enjoy and cherish it as much as he did.
A rare opportunity to own a beautifully restored T140D with genuine one-family history from new.
The hydraulic brake disc cover is included and simply needs refitting and I have an original manual as well if wanted.
