Description
The Mercury Monterey Breezeway gained its name from the design of its rear window, which slides up and down to provide some much-needed fresh air.
Having a rear window that opens to allow a breeze seemed like a neat solution, especially as the reverse-rake design kept most of the rain out, especially at speed.
It was certainly an elegant solution but then the Mercury is an elegant car. Civilised too, thanks to the 6. 4-litre/ 390 cubic-inch V8 that shuffles its 250bhp to the rear axle via three-speed Merc-O-Matic automatic gearbox.
Most were four-door sedans but a few, like this, had just the two doors, ratcheting up the Monterey’s elegance and rarity. Only 3 in Europe. The two door configuration suits the design better than the 4 door which looks too long.‘EBW 408B’ is a 1963 Candy Apple Red Mercury Monterey Breezeway with the two-door whcih makes it a rare thing 1 of 3.
It sits on beautiful black wire wheels with Chrome spinners and milwwod brakes. She has been fitted with £25k Airirde including duel show tanks and pumps in the boot area.
I bought it from a good friend a couple of years ago after admiring it from afar for a long time. I have thoroughly enjoyed owning this, my second American car, and I have enjoyed my time with it.
