Description
The time has come for me to sell my lovely little 1996 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting.
Presented in arguably the best colour ( Rosso Starter) with a full cloth interior, leather gear knob and steering wheel. Covering just over 33, 000 miles.
The cars history:
This car, along with a handful of others, was purchased brand new by Austin Rover back in the 1990’s for development and research purposes.
At the time, Rover was looking to make a cheap city car, and used the cinquecento as a benchmark.
When the company went bankrupt in the early 2000’s, all of their assets were held while the legal issues were getting ironed out.
After 11 years of legal battles, all of their assets got sold off, and this is when the lovely gentlemen I bought the car from purchased it.
He was a true Fiat enthusiast, and cared for this car to such a high standard.
Every single bit of paperwork was kept in the history file, and only used on sunny days and Sunday drives.
He was also a big part of the owners club, and the car had featured in multiple car magazines.
The magazines are present in the history file, which is something truly special.
I then purchased the car from him back in 2019 after asking in the owners group if anyone had one of these cars for sale.
He decided to sell due to ill health.
Since my ownership, I drove the car around for a number of months.
But once COVID hit, I parked the car in a friends dry garage, which is where it sat until early last year..
Since early 2025, I have been chipping away at fully recommissioning the car.
After being sat for a number of years, the car needed your normal items replacing, such as:
Discs and pads
Front brake callipers
Fully rebuilt rear axle
Fully rebuilt rear drum brakes
Handbrake cables
Rear springs and dampers
Front springs and dampers
Lower front wishbones
New sump
Cam belt and water pump
Cam cover gasket
Cooling system flush
Fuel system flush
Oil and filter
Four new tyres
New air filter
New battery
New wipers
Full detail inside and out
Wheel alignment
Fresh MOT.
The car now starts and drives like a new car, looks like a new car and even still smells like a new car.
The paintwork is pretty much flawless, and there’s no rust on the car.
After a good underbody clean, I applied a fresh, clear coating of wax oil to preserve the great original condition.
Unlike others for sale, this car has not got thick black under seal on the underside.
It looks like it did when it was new, with a light dusting of clear wax oil, to try and preserve the impressive condition.
Other things to note, the car comes with its original factory option headlight covers, original dealership number plates, original mud flaps, original floor matts and user manuals.
It is a joy to drive, and finding such a clean, rust free example, which zero modifications, low mileage and a large history file is a rare opportunity.
I never intended on selling this car, but due to being in the middle of renovating my first house, I need to sell some cars..
