Sold new in the United States in December 1958, this car found its way to Europe a few years ago. A Frenchman bought it and imported it into France where it was restored. The restoration was carried out to very high standards and a few modifications were made on that occasion. Delivered originally to a New York dealer in a cream exterior colour with a biscuit interior, the French owner had the car repainted in a red colour appropriate for the period. The choice of the biscuit interior was preserved. A new black mohair soft-top, with soft-top cover, was also installed at the time. As for the car’s condition, the photos speak for themselves! Technically, the car has been completely rebuilt and the original automatic transmission has been replaced with a five-speed manual gearbox. The brakes have been upgraded and the suspension refined. The brakes have been enhanced with a servo-assisted master cylinder. A set of adjustable SPAX shock absorbers has been installed to improve handling. Three SU carburettors with short pipes give the right mix and the right note to the twin-cam engine. A stainless steel exhaust finishes it all off. The car runs and drives perfectly and behaves extremely well in all conditions, whether cruising or rallying. As for the interior, the leather upholstery is very handsome and has always been very well maintained. The dashboard is equipped with the original Smith gauge. All the chrome is in good condition. The chrome wheels are fitted with new 205/ 70-15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres. In addition, the car has been fitted with a chrome luggage rack, Lucas headlamps, a new wiring loom, a chrome spare wheel, etc. The car is still registered in France and comes with its Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
