1949 BSA A7

Highlights

  • Nicely restored from a barn find
  • Starts and runs well
  • Enthusiast owned for the last 10 years

The Appeal

Launched in 1946 the BSA A7 provided affordable transport and good all round performance with its 500cc twin engine, producing 26bhp, which could deliver a top speed of around 85mph.

Restored to its current condition from a barn find the bike has been regularly used for short runs over the past 10 years and is a nice honest example of this British BSA classic motorcycle.

Finished in Black with a single seat the bike has a great classic look and is believed to be mostly original with only some new chrome pieces being added while still retaining a nicely aged overall patina.

The Mechanics

  • 500cc twin cylinder
  • Front and rear drum brakes
  • Plunger frame with rigid rear
  • The bike starts easily and rides very nicely
  • As the bike has sat unused for the last 18 months an oil change is probably advisable
  • Converted to 12v electrics
  • The owner advises that the magneto requires some attention, needing to be either replaced or being rewound.

The Summary

A nice early BSA A7 500cc twin, that has been sympathetically restored to a condition that retains the patina of age and its original character in spades.

Some small amount of work is required to sort out a Magneto issue but otherwise the bike is reported to be mechanically sound and should make for a wise investment and a great deal of classic motorcycling fun.
