1969 Piaggio Vespa Sprint (VLB)

Highlights

  • Italian import
  • New 150cc UNI Auto engine
  • Restored in 2020
  • Only 47 km covered since the purchase

THE APPEAL

The Piaggio Vespa, one of the most recognised and loved scooters and one of Italy’s most impactful and iconic automobiles.

Its popularity grew after it shared the big screen with Audrey Hepburn the film Roman Holiday plus its adoption alongside the Lambretta by the Mod subculture who added personalised modifications to create unique and stand-out scooters.

This example is the Sprint model, finished in an attractive pairing of burgundy and white paint. It was imported to the UK from Italy in around 2020 and underwent restoration which included a new engine and has since covered less than 50 km. It is in fine condition but does carry a few minor age-related blemishes and is being sold as the current vendor is looking to downsize his collection.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • 1969 build
  • Italian import
  • Undocumented restoration
  • Seat and handles still covered and protected since being renewed
  • Valid V5c present

THE CONDITION

  • Gorgeous colour pairing
  • Brand new seat and grips still covered
  • Subtle Mod styling
  • Overall Good condition
  • Minor blemishes present

The pairing of burgundy and white is gorgeous and with the exception of a few age-related blemishes, the scooter is in fine order. The seat and handle grips are still wrapped in plastic and untouched since the restoration a few years ago. Without question, this bike is a great example of a much-loved icon, with a few small Mod influenced styling accessories. Small paint blemish on the front mudguard shown up close in the final photograph.

THE MECHANICS

  • Brand new 150cc engine
  • Fewer than 50 km covered since restoration
  • Reliable & Affordable

During our visit, the Vespa was not started. But we are assured it is in fit and in fine operating health thanks to the new UNI Auto engine that was installed a few years prior. The bike hasn’t been used since the restoration and was purchased as part of a Vespa collection. It has spent the majority of its time covered and stored in a unit but the owner has assured us the bike is in fine running order.
