The Appeal
Morgan’s three-wheeler began as budget wheels for pre-war buyers, but the firm quickly saw the potential. Of the many flavours, the illustrious Super Sport with the V-Twin JAP 1,100cc engine is arguably the best. It’s also the one that inspired the model’s recent rejuvenation.
This gorgeous burgundy V-Twin was fully restored by the current keeper, a renowned enthusiast, in 2006 He undertook a comprehensive renovation and rebuild that delivers the remarkable little machine that you see in the photos. The work included a full engine rebuild. It has covered just 830 miles since.
Since its completion, it has taken part in many events and rallies, including the Waltham Windmill, North Cotes Wings & Wheels, Fir Park Wings & Wheels, and Humber Bridge Classic Car Meet.
This fantastic little car is about as much fun as you can have on two, three or four wheels. It is in great order, has excellent provenance and sports a lovely burgundy and black colour scheme.
The vendor says:
“All in all this is a fully sorted car ready for immediate extended use with everything that needed doing having been done during its restoration. It is fast, sounds glorious & has the full tally ho, chocks away, bugs in the teeth type driving experience whilst peering through the aero style screen.”

“During restoration the throttle control was moved to the floor to the right of the brake in conventional fashion rather then leaving it on the steering wheel where use is an acquired skill as an exercise in co-ordination & dexterity. The choke & advance/retard fall easily to hand on levers under the dash to the right or the steering wheel.
“The beetle back rear of the morgan hinges up allowing access to the battery & its cut off switch. There is also a useful little storage area under the rear bodywork allowing for overnight soft bags to be stowed, or simply knickers & a tooth brush depending upon preference.”
“The car is finished in a deep red with the paintwork in lovely condition. A separate spare rear wheel with a new tyre comes with the car. There is also a tonneau cover to snap over the cockpit when the machine is to be left unattended. The wheels are powder coated black & have new tyres fitted all round.”
The Mechanics
- 1,100cc JAP V-twin engine
- Three-speed manual transmission with reverse gear
- Engine fully rebuilt during restoration
- Only 830 miles covered since work completed
- New sliding pillar suspension fitted to the front
- Chassis frame stripped, primed and repainted during restoration
- Twin Amal carburettors
- The vendor reports the car is fast with good performance for its era
- Described as well-sorted and ready for immediate extended use
The vendor says:
“Starting the beast is a simple affair of turning on the ignition, priming the twin Amal Carb's & pulling the decompression lever before releasing it once the engine has started to spin by pushing the starting button. It quickly roars into life with the exposed valve rocker gear dancing a jig in front of one as the scenery somewhat alarmingly rushes towards you.
“Make no mistake this little contraption is a hoot to drive & brings out the inner hooligan in even the most reserved of drivers. Forward motion is via an easy to master 3 speed gear box also equipped with reverse, the layout of which is the inverse of modern gear boxes with first being found where you might more normally expect to find 4th gear. At 6ft 3" tall I am quite comfortable in it so it is well suited to those of taller stature. Getting in is simple by standing on the seat & sliding ones legs down under the wheel. Getting back out.....a slightly different story!”
