The Appeal
The Lancia Augusta was a landmark car for the Turinese marque when it debuted in 1933, being among the first mass-produced saloons to feature a monocoque body and powered by Lancia's characteristically innovative narrow-angle V4 engine. The second series, produced from 1935, refined the formula further and remains a highly prized model among collectors of pre-war Italian machinery, not least because of its eligibility for the legendary Mille Miglia.
This 1936 Augusta Series 2 boasts a provenance that few can rival.
Purchased new by a Captain in the Royal Italian Army, its history has been traced from that first owner right through to the present day. The car has undergone an extensive restoration, with every stage documented across some 700 photographs. The work encompassed the engine, gearbox, clutch, electrical system, bodywork, and tyres, all renewed as part of the rebuild. In 2025, the car was awarded second in its class at the Concorso d'Eleganza Terme della Salvarola.
Beyond its concours credentials, this Augusta has enjoyed something of a screen career, spending two weeks on the set of a RAI television film documenting the Panini story, and it has also been featured in the pages of Ruoteclassiche magazine. It is registered with both ASI and FIVA, and comes with a collection of original items including its registration plate, logbook, use and maintenance booklet, and ignition keys, a notable survival for a car approaching its 90th birthday.
With its technical inspection valid until 2027, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a thoroughly restored, historically significant, and Mille Miglia-eligible pre-war Lancia with a well-documented paper trail.
