Having gained independent front suspension and rack & pinion steering, the MG TD was notably more advanced than its TC predecessor. Overseas sales remained strong, particularly in the United States, so MG introduced a left-hand drive option for the first time. In all, 23,488 of the c.30,000 TDs found their way to the US.
As the photographs show, this 1952 model is as beautiful a TD as you could ever hope to find. Having been subjected to a comprehensive restoration six to eight years ago, which went as far as replacing the ash frame, this car presents impeccably throughout and has hardly been used. Even the new tonneau covers are still unused in their polythene bags, and the vendor states that the rebuilt XPAG engine still isn't run-in.
The key to any truly great restoration is to start with a good car. This MG TD was a solid Californian import in highly original and serviceable condition. That made it an excellent basis for this quality of work. The photographs really do speak for themselves.image.png3.49 MB
