The Appeal
Sports cars saved the British motor industry in the challenging post-war years. Sprightly British roadsters proved especially popular overseas, particularly across the Atlantic in the United States of America. A welcome injection of cash kept the likes of MG, Jaguar, Morgan, and Triumph afloat, and it's all thanks to one thing: the cars were fantastic.
The Triumph TR3A is among the most charismatic British sports cars of the late 1950s. With its distinctive cutaway doors, purposeful stance and eager four-cylinder engine, it remains a firm favourite among enthusiasts and a genuinely rewarding car to drive on today's roads.
This example was brought to the UK from the United States by the original family in 1967 and remained in their care for over five decades. A comprehensive restoration was carried out in 1995/96 by TRGB, the well-regarded Cambridgeshire-based Triumph specialists, encompassing the engine rebuild and documented with invoices throughout. Since the restoration, approximately 17,000 miles have been covered.
The vendor states the car is in very good condition and that its paintwork regularly draws positive comments. Recent mechanical work includes a new radiator, hoses, sump gasket, fan belt and alloy fuel tank, while fuel lines have been upgraded to cope with modern ethanol-content fuels. Cosmetically, new chrome has been fitted to the headlights, rear lights, hubcaps and badging, and a reversible full LED light conversion has been carried out. It comes complete with a tonneau cover, soft top, hoodstick cover and an aftermarket hard top.
